Now keep in mind I don't think running a tank at saturation levels is that important as long as the levels are decent and you have a good exchange rate.
But I don't get what you are inferring since Eric's article tends to show pretty high saturation levels for the tanks he tested which...
At 35 ppt at a temp of 25C/77F the saturation is 6.9
At 35 ppt at a temp of 30C/86F the saturation is 6.4
This is from Eric article you mentioned. BTW, some of the data he used is from Adey. I know you mentioned "And I and others really don't give Adey much credit" but apperantly Eric does...
I really wish I would have said "less" instead of "no" there at the end of that sentence. This was in reference to adding washing soda instead of baking soda (wasn't advice to do anyway but just a mention in the post).
BTW, the statement I made was only dealing with the pH/CO2 at the time of...
How would you clean the fuge from time to time? They are swamps where tons of crap can settle. The bigger the tank the more "swampy" the fuge can be. Every system will run different but try and make sure you CAN clean it if/when needed.
Carlo
The bottom of the fuges don't need to even with the top of your tank. It top just needs to be higher then the display tank so gravity can work for you. I'm sure you know this already but just thought I'd mention it. I myself wouldn't want the fuges drastically high like that because it's...
This is your opinion and I disagree with it. :) It's nothing more then that. Opinion. I have lots of data that show me bleaching happens at much higher temps then 84 and also have lots of data and personal experience that shows that the corals (mixed) grow and thrive at this temp with no signs...
Broken into sections
I think I agree with you on only needing the higher Alk with decent Ca values but that wasn't the point. I was quoting what Randy has said. While many people look up to Randy because of his no nonsense tell it like it is attitude, some things are still a matter of opinion...
I try and avoid taking any coral onto a plane. Overnight shipping to the house instead.
What did they take from you?
What kind of crazy laws do they have for this? Did they tell you to take a sip? :) Any idea if there is any crazy rule like only 4oz of water per bag or something like that? You...
Definitely siphon it out as John suggested. Get as much of it as you can. You don't want it dieing off in the tank.
You got to kill the nutrients. What are your Nitrate and phosphate levels?
Generally speaking you will want to concentrate on removing phosphates. Cyano is aggressive at taking...
Most people seem to like it. I saw the bucket at your house for the "opening" and thought you were already running it. :)
Would I be correct to assume the Calcium mixed up higher then it did for you with TM with about the same alk levels?
If so, do you plan on bumping up the Alk levels a bit...
That doesn't make sense. The 3/4 tank water value is going to need to be higher then the 1/2 tank value. I'm pretty sure you just switched them but could you double check the values?
I just realized you said you were using a Salifert kit. Forget using 1/2 and 3/4 tank water volumes. Just do the...
I chuckle at this to. People get hung up on the saturation level of the water. It doesn't need to be at 100%. In Walter Adey's book he says that natural seawater in areas around reefs are generally between 95-110% saturated with oxygen, and >60% of areas measured are at 100% saturation...
