It's hard to "breed" live mysis/mysid? Not in my tanks!

Any chance either of you can snap a closeup of these shrimp? Love to see them. Carlo

It's hard to "breed" live mysis/mysid? Not in my tanks!

Cool thanks. BTW, wasn't knocking the marco rock previously. What I mentioned was "strictly bacteria wise" and not other fauna type things. The marco type rock is probably IMHO better for this type of thing. Rock has many uses. This is a case of when I shouldn't have made a comment in the first...

It's hard to "breed" live mysis/mysid? Not in my tanks!

"Candi Shrimp" anyone? You should bottle them and sell them for starter cultures. ;D mfisher2112, do they seem to pass through the return pump alive or does it mulch them up? Carlo

    Halide parameters

I've got 4 Halides over an 84" L 24" W and don't see any issues with 3 over 60". Normally for a 48" tank you get 2 lights in the strip so that's 1 Halide per 24" and you would be at 1 light per 20" which is even better. The extra width isn't going to be a problem in my opinion if you do a...

    Controlling Bubble Algae

Well lets just say it's better if you can remove it. Try not to pop the bubbles either. Carlo

Yea well all I can say is "drool" :) BTW, I run pretty darn fast! Carlo

How do I raise my Alk levels

Well that sucks big time since I went out of my way to call TWICE and ask them about this before the purchase because I didn't think it would be good for salt water or would have to much error. Luckily, I only use it as a reference and it's not an important device in the setup, more like a toy...

    Talk on Temps

Boomer, I'm actually trying to find articles on different temps for tanks with pro/cons, etc and different points of view. Doesn't matter if it's geared towards higher or lower temps. No bias either way in the thread. Just looking for different perspectives and whatnot. If you have any links...

Have we become slaves to parameters?

Phylyp <-- gots to remember that one, could come in handy. ;D Sorry about that PHIL, slip of the tongue/keyboard. Sidetracked question. You weren't born a US Citizen or still not a US citizen? How old were you when you made the trip across the pond? Carlo

    New camera toys

Are you bringing that camera/lens to the meeting on Sunday? Will you happen to set it down when you think no one is looking? I need a lens like that. ;D Wow, really nice pictures. How much difference did you notice with the TC on? Do you notice a big difference in exposure time with the TC? My...

It probably should include a TALL ONE so I don't bother some of the neighbors. :)

Have we become slaves to parameters?

Always a good one too! I posted the salt manufactures recommendations a few posts up. But who is to say that is not even to often and they are just trying to push more salt? Maybe it should be done more but from complaints from stupid people mixing wrong or not temp adjusting they limit the...

Have we become slaves to parameters?

Is it safe to assume something bad happened to the tank? Like say some type of tank poision? Is so, the way I'd look at that is, in an emergency when you think something has been put in the tank that can kill everything, then you do what you need to do. You try and match the best you can but...

I need to learn about calcium reactors.

Try the "Carlo Approach" - add more fish. They breath in O2 and release CO2. I "had" to do this on my system because the pH was to high also. Kidding aside, additional bio-load will do the trick and so will the CO2 injection. You'll also get a pH lowering affect from the Calcium/Alk/Mg (adds...

    Controlling Bubble Algae

That's a contridition in a way. If the nutrients are truly low the macro algae will die off. If it just about stays the same size without growing you're at an ideal level. If it completely dies off you might want a little more nutrients in the system or skim drier. Make sense? Carlo

Have we become slaves to parameters?

I see water changes the same way mladencovic & blange3 do. I almost fell out of my chair when Boomer mentioned he did 95% water changes in the other thread from a few days ago, which is the most I've ever heard of on an ongoing basis. But if that worked for him then great. I see water changes...

    Talk on Temps

Everything can do better at higher temps because the metabolism is higher. That just means you need to work harder to keep nutrients low. Never said it was easier. :) Carlo

Have we become slaves to parameters?

I don't think that's wrong Jazz. I don't check parameters every day either. About once a week here except for pH, Temp, ORP which I can easily see on my Neptune box. Just looking at the tank itself can tell you many things when you know what to look for. I think the key is have some type of set...
