Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
The breakou box allows you to wire things directly as digital input switches.

It is used with the AC3 or PX1000 expansion. It can be used on a Junior also - BUT then you have no serial port, and no connection to a...
I do that now. I have a Water Bug plugged into the Breakout Box on my AC3. If water is detected, then it shuts down the skimmer and return pump and emails me, plus flashs a warning Lamp near the tank. (Chirstmas bulb behind the tanks flashes red with any alarm the AC3 generates).
Here is a comparison chart between the differnent AC Models.

The Jr is a great controller, but the AC3 is a better deal. Almost everyone at some point wants to get their controller on their networks to make...
In smaller tanks, 90 gallons, its hard to keep enough flow going to keep the sand from browning without so much flow you have a dust storm (even with lots of cleanup crew).
I am seeing more and more tanks using the black sand, and I think I ilke the look, plus it solves a bunch of cosmetic...
I know the guys well over there and spoke to Ryan about it the other day. Seems they started this design about 2 months ago and have been running it on their systems as a test.
(Group Buy Manager hat on here:) They do have a group buy type of program, but since we already have our own deals for...
I have would have thought someone would have come up with this sooner... but Bulk Reef Supply has come up with a Phosban and Carbon reactor (single and dual) based on the parts from an RO unit, with the media going into the refillable cartridge we would normally use for DI.
I could absolutely...
So its not just me.... I have 3 of them all start leaking voltage once they got past 6 months. In heater posts all over the place, I hadn't seen anyone make that comment, so I figured I was mishandling them when I cleaned them.
Jager heaters now.... and rock solid. Hydor was an OK heater, but...
Never again pile..
Rio Pumps (any size)
Hang on back skimmers
Liquid test kits for PH
Crushed coral (I cringe when I overhear LFS employees recommending it)
Tape on backgrounds
Should have done from Day 1 pile....
Aqua Controller (how did I live without this)
Best Skimmer you can afford. (Love...
Its based entire on the amount of CA consumed in the tank. If it was a stocked SPS tank, then you would have to use a CA reactor, if its mostly LPS, then either works.
Let some of the 180 folks chime in here.
I have the 8-bulb version, and have had it for 1 1/2 years. I am very happy with the unit. It fans are quiet. The factory bulbs are way to white, once I replaced the with different UVL bulbs, the color was great.
Unless you are at 180 gallons or more, then you can save signifcant money with 2 part over calcium reactor(and then all the other things that go along with Reactor, like low PH, so adding a Kalk reactor).
You can automate the process for a responsble cost by using a dosing pump that has 2...
CA and ALK are chicken an egg problems, but you can't really keep CA at any high level until you bring up the Magnesium.
Get the MAG up to around 1350-1450, then bring up the CA.
Keep in mind MOST reefers have it backwards, they aim for a CA #, then keep fiddling with ALK. Assuming you have...
It is usually recommended to be plumbed before the softener. The calcium (Salt) added in the softening/purging process tends to foul the membrane early.
I think your 14.7 reading is a testing error.
The reference solution is to check that you are doing the basic test correctly. Run the ALK test, but using the reference solution instead of tank water. If you are doing the test correctly, then you should come within 10% of the setting that is...
