    wash or replace filter socks?

If they are the felt type, then you can get about 5 washings out of them before they start to bunch up. If they are Nylon, they are good for about 30 washings. Hot water wash, low agigation (gentle cycle keep bottom sewing seem from popping), no soap, a spot of bleach helps.

Those plastic clamps are great if and when you can find them in the right sizes. But a better/faster way to do it and always every size is to use heavier cable ties cinched using a cable tie gun. The lower end guns are less than $10 in Lowes or HD. Here is a pic...

    Ka Reactor vs Ca Reactor

You would be quite surpised how far an aqualifter can push up in height. Since it is such a small volume, it goes quite far. I have had no problem pushing up at least 8 feet straight up.

I have been doing lots of research as I will probably need to go to a Calcium reactor pretty soon. Its getting hard to keep up with 2 part alone.

The club has some from a group buy that can save you a lot of money. Also you can buy generic bulk from here. Very good and reliable. http://www.bulkreefsupply.com (this is the new name for the old twopartsolution site.)

    phosban reactor recommendation please

Same here, the TLF 90 angle connectors at the top made me nervous since it takes very little pull for the barb to pull out. I just put a plastic wire tie around it and that seems to help. You can't pull it out.

    auto top off

All you need is a pump..... I use a maxijet 1200. One of the floats us in the sump, the other one is in the 55 RO barrel. The unit will only turn on the pump if the sump is low and the RO water reserve is high. You can also set it up, so that both floats are in the sump as a low and high. Like...

    auto top off

Here is also another popular all in one solution. This is what I use since you have the choice of how to use the 2 switchs. (both in the same sump or 1 in the sump and 1 in the RO Barrel). I also then have it plugged into my Aqua controller and only let it turn on for 2 minutes every 2 hours...

On the side view of my sump pic, look on the wall on the left. The horizonal PVC pipe with valve connections going up. Notice spare port so you can plug in other stuff later.

    water changes??

I do it similar to Phyl and John.. (and copied their idea of the valve manifold system.) My sump is a 40 gallon breeder in the basement. I turn off the return pump and let it drain back down from the upstairs display tank (Its only about 1 inch). I then throw 2 valves and turn the return pump...

    Skimmer for 90 gal reef

I have owned a few of the EV series and quite like them (as well as BermudaAquatics and ASM). Like all skimmers, there is a break-in period and a tuning period. The tuning of an EV series can be a pain as the air control is not very sensitive (tiny change gets big reaction), but once tuned, you...

    Filter sock and Protein Skimmer

This is normal as the sock changes teh surface tension of the water. The lower the microns of the sock, the more then surface changes. A 100 Micron Sock, has a more dramatic effect than a 150 Micron sock. 2 thinks to try... 1. Try a 150 Micron Sock, its a good compromise since for most the...

    Neptute Conroler Owners

The sealed individual packets have a pretty good shelf life. Its a waste to by the bottles of the products because as soon as you open them and expose them to air, they deteriorate quickly and a short shelf life since they are exposed to sunlight. The individual packets are sealed in foil. And a...
