raising CA using two-part solution or equivalent

Abandoned it in favor of only Kalk? No CO2 reactor? Is your tank have on hard corals? My Kalk is tied to my top-off and it replenishes only 5ppm of Ca per daily, while my corals would "eat" at least 20-30ppm daily.

raising CA using two-part solution or equivalent

I have been manually dosing both B-Ionic and Kent two parts for last several months. Since I can dose them only once or twice a day, this has become a problem since 45-60ml of each that I am dosing daily to my 75 gal tank, is not nearly enough and dosing more at the same time will severely...

    Camel shrimp

Try baiting him in some kind of trap (soda bottle, mesh, commercially available traps) with a nice meaty piece of shrimp or something similar. Experiment to see what kind of food will bring him out.

    Camel shrimp

Camelback shrimps (Rhynchocinetes durbanensis) are very well known for NOT being reef safe, specially against soft corals. You can find a bit about them here : http://www.wetwebmedia.com/rhynchocinetidae.htm http://www.wetwebmedia.com/dancingshrpfaqs.htm

    ID me please

    1. My first guess would be Goniastrea sp. (Goniastrea palauensis or Goniastrea retiformis for example). Second choice would be Favia sp. or Favites sp. 3. Lobophyllia sp., Symphyllia sp. or Isophyllia sp. most likely.

Can any one identify this coral for me

My guess would also be Montipora family, maybe Montipora floweri, Montipora millepora, or Montipora aequituberculata, to name a few possibilities (assuming that the colony is encrusting).

Drilled tanks are quieter then HOB overflows right?

Noise from the overflows is exclusively the function of the acoustic properties of the pipe that brings the water down to the sump, and the height difference between the top edge of the overflow and the sustainable water level in it. It does not matter if the overflow is internal or external...

    Upgrading light question

You have 3 choices: 1. Acclimate by time exposure: start with exposing them for only a very short period of time (say 15 min) and gradually increase (lets say by 5-10min) daily. 2. Acclimating them by distance: start with corals very far from the light and gradually bring them closer. You can...

    Metal Halide Ballast Question

You are either reading something wrong :-\ or doing something wrong :(. 10 A fuse (or circuit breaker) if rated for 110V current CAN NOT be 250W or 400W max. 10A @ 110V is 1100W max. If it is indeed 10A 250W max, then it is either not supposed to be used with 110 V current or it is only 2.5A @...

    Senator Larry Craig

Alegedly tried to touch (bump with his feet?) legs of undercover cop in the airport's restroom stall next to his: http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/08/31/craig.arrest/index.html Even if it is entrapment, you have to wander about his common sense after outright plea of guilty. Doesn't he watch...

    Senator Larry Craig

Since we ALL would not be able agree on MH vs LEDs or T5s, bare bottom vs DSB, UV vs not UV, 8 pH vs 8.3 pH, etc I would in general stay away from politics. ;D In this particular case, I would say politics has little to do with it - just plain human failing aggravated by the hypocrisy of people...

    crazy glue vs. nail glue

I am not a big expert on nail glue :) , but even though both are cyanoacrylate based, crazy glue used for corals is in gel form, while, from what I have seen, and I might be wrong, nail glue is usually in the liquid form. Also, some nail glues have will have some antibacterial component, while...

220w PC vs. 175 MH...PC sure seemed to put out a lot more light!

They do - a few days, but you will mostly see a slight change in color, rather then in intensity. 14,000K is not so much a blue color rather cold white. For real blue go to 20,000K. When you compared with PCs, what was their temperature? Our eyes are optimised for 6,000K so the yellow will...

    Corals can SURVIVE!

I would definitively get rid of them. Even in FO tank, do you really want your whole rock covered in aptasias and majanos? You will love that "bonus" until you find out that you also got flatworms or acro-munching bristleworms or crabs or coral boring snails. >:( ::)

how long before dry rock becomes live?

Not really. While, strictly speaking it will become "live" in a matter of minutes by being seeded with free floating bacterias attaching to its surface, it will probably take a few weeks for those bacterias to multiply enough to colonize the whole rock and (what is more important) by...

    My 24gallon nano cube

Well, in that case, I would definitively first check with him to find how those two species got together, how much will they grow, what is possibility of their conflict and wether or not you should separate them. If you decide to do that, the best way would be to, using the bone cutters, remove...
