    Interesting Store F/S Florida

looks like a hobbiests dream to me...not really a store that makes money. where is the drygoods section? where is the fish section? what about the "bread and butter" inverts section?

    East Coast Reefers

there are good and bad folks in every club. there are a few people i consider good friends at dvrc. i don't agree with everything they are doing, but i can say that some of the ugliness is dissipating. ;)

    Pumps/Power Heads/Both?

you will definitely need more flow in the display than the return pump affords you. also, depending on the size of your sump, a return pump of that size might cause a microbubble issue. so much water coming down so fast and not enough sump to handle it. i'm using a mag24 return on my 195, but my...

    Metal halide suggestions

it's not all personal preference. some put out alot less PAR (photosynthetically active radiation) than others. check out sanjay's lighting page for the rundown on most of the common brands. you should also consider what corals you are keeping, and from what depths these corals were collected.

-btw, i have both metal halide and t-5s over various tanks, and i'm migrating towards getting rid of the t-5's and going all halides. ;)

    lighting dilemma - need opinions

i don't think you are going to save much money, and i don't believe too much heat either. you have 300 watts of metal halide now. what fixture would you be going to? a 6 x 54 watt fixture? that's more than 300 watts. as for the heat i believe the heat from halides is concentrated in a small...

    Red Bugs - Planaria

lol..dunno, but my results with the 2 wrasses sold me on this solution. i'm actually in the process of doing it again with a mandarin in one of the smaller tanks. i've noticed a 70-80% decline in population in 2 weeks.

    Red Bugs - Planaria

red flatworms aren't a big deal. red bugs are another story. the way i removed a massive infestation of flatworms from my big tank was to introduce animals that compete with them for food. flatworms are ambush predators that eat pods. fairy wrasses, mandarins, and the like are excellent for this...

Our 30 Gallon Cube (pics included)

hi. my experience with the remora was that it was about worthless. microbubbles, lack of skimmate, and what sounded like the suction thing at a dentists office prompted me to get rid of it after 6 months. ours was so loud i had to put it on a timer to only come on when we were at work, since it...

    48" 6x54W Tek Light T5 High-Output Fixture. Good enough for 90g SPS?

yes, it's a single reflector that is bent so that it has peaks between each bulb. not nearly as effective as true single reflectors. also, i own a nova pro, and it's got a short in the sockets somewhere that i haven't gotten into yet. i have to wedge something under the one leg to cock it a bit...
