i highly doubt an arrow crab or coral banded will eat one that size. they are best suited keeping the small ones' numbers down. actually, if you feed your tank like i feed mine, your cb and arrow crab won't even touch the worms, because of the abundance of easier food sources, not to mention the...
aren't you building some sort of frame? you could use 2x3's for that. that's not alot of weight..a 20. it's barely 200 pounds on top. and another 60 or so pounds underneath. i'd use a 2x3 stick frame and 1/2" plywood.
i agree..they are cheap! i think they are a third of the price of a name brand even. and i do like the construction quality of the unit...just not the ballast.
i used a 250 watt fixture over a 21 inch deep tank with a 2.5 inch sand bed. again, those zoos are 3/4 the way up the rockwork. that...
now, i have to disagree with that statement. i had one of those ebay coralife clone halide fixtures and it came with a no-name elec. ballast, and that thing would not push the bulbs at all. i tried xm 10k, xm 15k, and a couple ebay cheapy bulbs, and the one it came with. that 250 watt ballast...
there is alot of talk about this 3 or 4 part salt that the owner of "get tanked" makes and uses. http://gettankedaquariums.com/
some of our club swear by it. i say, "if it aint broke....stick with the reef crystals" ;)
i'm getting ready to change out my 400 watt sunlight supply magnetic ballasts for 250 watters.
does anyone know anything about Sunlight Supply Galaxy Dual 250W Electronic Ballasts ? this would be a decent solution because i wouldn't have to twist wires- the quick disconnects from my SS 400's...
oops- my tank is 25" deep. i can keep sps on the sand bed with no problem at all. LPS bleaches out. i actually have maze brains UNDER the rockwork getting indirect light, and they are doing alot better than out in the direct light. i couldn't decide on what bulbs...so i have 1 ushio 14k, 1...
maybe i'm missing something...but if you drill the refugium tank, and make it higher than the sump, but lower than the display, and run the drain into the sump, it should work fine. you could even run the display drain into the refugium, then to the sump. the sump(bottom) will still show the...
1. 24/7 is working well now. this house is almost 70 years old. there's plenty of ventilation IMO.
meanwhile, i'm going to test the air inside the house for Formaldehyde, Nitrogen Dioxide, Carbon Monoxide and Carbon Dioxide. also mold, yeast, fungus, and bacteria, just to be safe.
it's a 70...
umm..sure...
the wooden shelf is nothing more than a place to put my ballasts. i have a seperate breaker dedicated to those.
as i said, i just threw this together, to see if it would work, before i spent money on a more drastic measure.
what you saw was as far as i've gotten. if i wanted to...
ok. i'll give you guys an update.
i went with a simple DIY exhaust fan and it works perfectly.
home depot had a 250cfm in-line fan for $24.95, 8 feet of flexible duct, a vent, a square to round adapter, a 15 foot cord, and some of that foil tape pictured.
the total for this was 70 bucks.
i've...
they have pictures of all in one versions on that link somewhere, but it's actually just a low cfm, inline fan in the basement piped outside, and a series of registers throughout the house to allow the whole house to breathe. since this house is old, and the doors aren't flush with the floors, i...
