when my fuge was under my tank in the cabinet, i would slide it out about an inch or so to vac up any salt buildup behind it. i was doing my normal cleaning of it when "crack!" the front glass spiderwebbed and leaking. it was 10 pm and as my wife siliconed the cracks, that went all the way...
nice tank ken! thanks for the input. my wife and i were talking today as we removed some cc about cutting off some pieces of our galaxy and letting it grow on the bottom like grass. your tank bottom looks pretty killer. that gives me something to think about
thanks hawkeye! i really like that look you got. black sand it is. ill bring a magnet with me and see if the stuff im getting is the same. thanks again for the pic!
just an update on the tank. i got my new light yesterday and all the lamps work on this one. so now i have the 8 bulb setup ive wanted. i found a great combo that looks real nice in the tank and really brings out the color of the corals. i also got my frag racks which i like but dont like the...
that all helped alot. thankyou. i think ill go with 1/3 cc,1/3 bare, 1/3 dsb ;D.....after all the reading and research i did today, you are right, its what ya want. there are successful tanks with every bottom and there are wretched tanks with every bottom. so, i guess a nice sand bed is gonna...
it has crossed my mind to go bare bottom. is it truly better in the long run? i have no problem going in that direction but i always thought a 3" bed was the way to go. how would i benefit in the long run with it?
thanks guys! i like the idea of putting the sand in containers to break it in a bit. i dont have too much floor space but ill figure something out for containers
hey all. i need some advice. i have been removing my crush coral a little at a time with each water change, but i need to get it all out alot quicker so i can get a sand bed in it. am i gonna mess anything up if i was to take everything out and put it in a big container, remove the rest of the...
thanks! i managed to remove 2 of them by sucking them up with a big syringe. i looked closely and i believe i got the foot and all. the last one is deep in a cave so im gonna let some peppermint shrimp in on it and see what happens. i think ill take your advice though and hit the area they were...
it just floats in there. one thing i like to do is when i do my water changes, i flip the clump of cheato so the bottom gets light. not sure if it makes a difference but it grows pretty fast so....rock,sand and cheato is plenty. ive been thinking of a couple mangroves to add to mine...they seem...
its nice when the tank gets to that point where its just mantainance. i just have to install my new light thats coming today and i cnn pretty much do the same. i definitly gotta find some captain palays. i looked again this morning and they are real nice!
hey man! your tank is looking really nice! love the captain america! you're right about having to be dedicated to the hobby to make something of it. reef tanks do come with a bit of a price tag but like you said, i'd do it all over again too. anyway, i enjoyed looking at your new pics. looking...
thanks guys, i feel bettter about my decision now. i didnt want to battle my wife over the thermostat this summer. it is a battle i prolly woulda lost. my tank and corals, i believe looks pretty killer and all ive used since the beginning is a 4 lamp nova with stock bulbs and a 36" glo with 2...
