Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Got most of it out today. No casualties at all, which is sort of what I expected.
Water still has a hue of pink, though, which leads me to believe that this might've been food coloring rather than candy as after 2 50% water changes in 2 days that there is still quite a bit of color in the...
As I've said to a few people here, I work at the Petco in Howell. Well, today was my day off and I was enjoying it along with a few beers at home when I got an emergency phone call from a co-worker.
The fish tank water -- and substrate -- was pink.
Bright, garish pink.
To my great disdain, I...
If you have an empty 5 gallon salt bucket or another larger bucket, fill it with water and take the fish in that. It gives the fish more area and stresses it out less.
In my experience with Gonioporas, clowns hosting in them is a terrible, terrible thing. They tend to irritate the already super fragile flesh to the point of brown jelly infections.
Either get the clown and wrasse out or get rid of the goniopora.
How long have you had it, pitogo? I had one...
Don't quote me if he DOES eat him, but Zebra's aren't known fish-eaters. The most docile eel if you ask me. Very mild mannered.
They primarily feed on crustaceans, but are known to leave cleaner shrimp alone for the most part.
The problem with the lunare is that they are SUPER aggressive when they get larger. Alpha-male style aggression. Any invert is also pretty much dead with a full sized lunare.
You certainly couldn't keep them and any anthias together...
Argh! Bummer, man! :(
Sorry to hear that...
Yeah, the best way to avoid the Brook is to avoid wild-caught specimens, also. A lot of times they come in with brook or velvet... Tank raised all the way.
Definitely let your system run fallow without any fish for about 2 months. It should...
Try and get your scooter eating mysis or at least live enriched brine sooner rather than later. They feed off copepods and are generally pretty hard to keep unless you have a larger system.
Or hook up a refugium w/ some macro algae for the pods to breed in.
I still say dose with Maracyn if it's not too bad. It's an anti-biotic. Cyano is a bacteria. It'll definitely get rid of it. Just obviously don't do it if the Cyano is like covering everything because of the die-off.
If you're not comfortable using a medication, look it up and look around for...
I've used Maracyn on a few tanks before w/ corals. As long as the cyano isn't TOO bad, then it should be fine to dose Maracyn (make sure to follow their directions) to remove it. I've used it with corals and inverts and never had a problem.
The only time I've ever heard of people having...
While I agree with this, you can get some really solid deals once in a while at Trop. And if you get to know the staff, they'll hook you up on prices as well. Especially on things that have been there a bit longer (AKA the pricier items).
