DC pumps dont handle head pressure well. The l1 is rated for 3100 at zero feet and has a max head pressure at 21 ft. So if your pumping the water up say 11ft the flow is cut in half most likely alot less after you factor in your plumbing. The blueline 70 is rated for 1750 ft but has a max head...

I had a 50 gallon cube for a year and a half might of been longer dont really remember when I started it and all I had on it was a skimmer and ato and I used kalk to maintain levels. It was a mix reef with mostly sps. My 225 is almost a year old and that just a skimmer, ato, uv and refugium.
