Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
The tank is 65X30X 25", it works out to right around 210G, subtract a bit for glass and the overflow I guess.
Here's a little rant about Glasscages for ya: I priced my tank at two other custom makers and they wanted THREE TIMES as much money. I am a Government employee with two kids, I don't...
I recently got some help from club members bringing my new tank into the house. I want to say thanks again to youse guys.
The tank was made by Glasscages, as was the stand. Their truck broke down in PA, so we went out to Allentown to get it.
Here are some pix of the move, and the new tank in...
There's quite a market in some of those old "PennPlax" ornaments on ebay, especially if you have the little plastic box. I myself once had the moving "Creature from the Black Lagoon," very naturalistic!
Of course they are still selling things like those lasers to put in your tank...
RichT: No...
I went to the Daily Record's Giant Garage Sale at Morris County College today. When I was there I found a guy with a whole bunch of Really OLD Metaframe aquarium stuff, from the '70s when I had my first tank. All in its original boxes, never opened. I scored a couple of stainless hoods, an air...
Brian, Sam, and Bill, thanks gigantically for driving all the way up to Rockaway to help deliver my new "baby!" I REALLY couldn't have done it without you!
John: It went fine we had (just) enough people. The worst thing that happened was that Glassgcages' truck broke down in PA and we had to...
I have always been a Tropic Marin user, and had good results.
Now I am setting up my new big system, finally, and I was thinking: Should I change to Instant Ocean, due to being able to get it more easily (say, in an emergency) at PetSmart etc.?
Does everybody use IO?
PETA can go to hell as far as I'm concerned. I noticed that their president Ingid Newkirk doesn't have any issues with taking insulin for her diabetes, insulin CRUELLY harvested from poor li'l piggies.
I heard from Glasscages. We are picking up the tank at around 12 noon in White Plains (Greenburgh) NY. If people would show up between 1 and 2 PM at my place that would be fantastic!
If anyone wants to come along to the pickup site, come around 11 AM.
I am supposed to get a a call detailing what hours they are there with the tanks. My plan is to drive up there in the morning and be back in early afternoon.
Well, I haven't ordered the pizzas yet, if that's what you mean... :)
No, I'm not ready. I have most of the gear I need, skimmer, pumps, reactor, ballasts, etc. I have to build a structure for the lights. I haven't done any plumbing yet becuz who knows where glasscages will actually drill the...
I'm sorry to hear about your burnout. The problem with the reefkeeping hobby is it's a lot of work. If you're a coin collector, it's easy to take a couple of months off to catch your breath, to remember what you liked about the hobby.
My mom died a few years ago, after a long decline and I was...
I'm still getting details from Glasscages, but I think we can get some help on the delivery end (White Plains) getting it in the vans. Unless someone has a panel truck they want to volunteer! My main concern is going from the van into the house, no stairs or anything, it't going on the first...
I am picking up my new Glasscages tank (and stand) in White Plains on Saturday, May 26 and I would be grateful if I could get some volunteers to help bring it into the house!
The tank is 65 X 30 X 24 High, and I have NO IDEA how much it's going to weigh. Glasscages says we need at least 4 people...
I have seen it done successfully, with SPS. Like to do it myself, actually. If you think about it, they're not very different from the Copperband, a popular fish for the reef and an enemy of aiptasia.
