Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Thanks.
You do not need to measure anything at the beginning for a small tank like yours other than alkalinity. Most of the issues can be resolved by regular water changes. Keep it simple.
The next thing to measure after the tank is up for a while is phosphate. I use Hanna phosphate checker...
Updates. Corals seem to be doing fine while I was out. Taught my sister how to check ALK she came in once a week do the testing, refill the ATO reservoir and feed the fish some frozen food + a spoon of Reef Roid. The rest of the week the tank got pellets from an automatic feeder.
One thing I...
There is no reason to keep the alk @8dkh or any specific number. You can do as many water changes as you want the parameter will just settle down to whatever the salt mixed at and it will be stable.
If you do not have SPS I wouldn't measure the water at all except salinity.
If not for the looks a standard 29g works just fine with an HOB filter.
About 10 years ago it's when I setup my first tank. It was the golden age of live rocks, fiji, tonga, branches, shelves you name it. Not it's Marco or real reef. But hey it's good for the reef supposedly.
You can get live...
The proof of the pudding is in the eating! I see people having all kind of success with all kinds of salts, especially instant ocean, which is what I use. The knowledge of the user trumps the differences in the salt.
Social media marketing is powerful.
Can't go wrong with ICP testing though and dose accordingly. Sounds expensive.
Does not address the biggest problem a reefer face though which is algae and nutrient control. Chemistry is easy.
I am sorry to hear this but it's the same story happening over and over again. I will offer you $50 for your purple tang with the ich :)
When I buy new fish sometimes they will show signs of ich but eventually they'll be fine. I don't quarantine and all my fish in the tank are resistant to ich...
