This is awesome. Love the idea but will the glass shelf hold the weight and pressure of the sand over time? As the mangroves grow they will take up more sand room and push against the the glass or am I over thinking this?
Friend is currently breaking down a red sea tank and the first thing to go are 3 frag racks covered in different types of coral. Located in Belmar NJ.

You can use reef flux even if its hair algae or bryopsis. I've had great luck using it for both. Best part is when it all starts to turn white your algae eats will go nuts for it and demolish it. The Sea Hare however I would look to rehome as soon as its under control.
