I was thinking about how the membrane flush kit works. When the flush is on the flow to the DI resin is significantly reduced. So I guess there is no need to install a bypass valve if you already have the flush kit installed.
My BRS 6-stage unit has a membrane flush kit installed, between the membrane and the DI resin. This flushes the membrane when open and also reduce the amount of the water going to the DI stage.

Depending on how your GFCI outlets are wired. You can have two GFCI wired independently (in the same circuit) then they will trip independently. But as Paul mentioned if you wire an outlet off the load terminal of a GFCI outlet it will lose power when the GFCI is tripped.

Your fish seems to have a fairly strong case of ich so it may or may not come out of it alive without intervention. The fish seems to be skinny too. If you decided not to treat it then improve the nutrition. Try getting some live blackworms and a variety of frozen food.
If you want to treat it...
I think you're on the right track. Ditch the GFO. Focus on being down phosphate then reduce nitrate as needed. You have plenty of fish so I wouldn't worry about stripping the tank top clean.
