I have battled bubble algae since I have my first reef tank. So I have some experience in this.
First of all you will not be able to control bubble algae thru nutrient control. If you pin you hope on any nutrient export method it will not work. Bubble algae will out-compete your corals for...
Unfortunately parameters is not everything otherwise we would all have the perfect tank. What works for one does not work for another. I noticed your Phosphate is zero. What fish and how much do you feed? What method do you use for nutrient export? The hammers do not look too happy either so...
pH is a function of Co2 and Alkalinity. Reducing Co2 (opening windows for example) will increase pH. 8.1 is nothing to worry about. Mine ranges 8.0 - 8.4 during the day.
Alk @7.8 is good. NSW is around 7.0. Lighting, nutrient and alk need to work together. Higher alk level reduces the margin of...
Very interesting. You're sure no other factor has changed right? I would think the sand is full of bacteria which helps breaking down the detritus. But I didn't think it could make such a significant impact. On the other hand the sand at the beach is not clumped together even these areas no...
I am thinking about doing the same for my nem tank with retro t5 + two mars aqua LED. The reason I have not done it is because I think two bulbs retrofit is not strong enough, which seems to be the case for you. But the cost of buying 2 sets of retrofit kits is close to getting a decent used ATI...
There is a thread on R2R that has the triton test result for most salts on the market. For an estabalishing reef most of the salt will work because whatever excess alk and calcium are quickly consumed by the growing corals. However for a new reef that does not have a lot of alk demand yet it is...
I do not have this problem but the defer command should work. What it does is that after the ON condition is met it will delay switching on the outlet for x number of minutes. I use it for my skimmer so it will turn on 3 mins after the return pump is turned on.
Most corals do not require feeding. Feeding fish is enough. At this point of the game watch the nutrient levels and algae growth until the system balance itself. You can get some snails too.
