I usually don't quarantine more than a couple of day. When I do I give the fish only one or two spots to hide. That's how it's done in LFS. I also try to quarantine a few fish together. They really like the company especially for difficult fish. I have setup quarantine tank with a lot of caves...
Water change will do little to reduce ammonia. 15% water change obviously will reduce ammonia by 15%. You can use some "prime" to reduce ammonia toxicity.
Very nice tank!
I have majority of the pellets left and will use it when the need arises. Right now taking it offline so the tank can recover :)
I would empty the reactor and use the new pellets only. If anything it will be a good comparison tests. Start with 200ml you should see much heavier skimmate when it...
I use Apex Classic (Lite) and had no experience with PK. Apex Jr. is a good choice. For me it's very important to be able to monitor remotely and receive alerts for power outage and temperature. I also monitor PH level as a proxy for the alk level.
Make sure Apex Jr. works with Apex Fusion if...
Hmm. It seems brand of pellets does make a difference. I use EcoBak it has completely striped my system in a matter of 2 months. 400ml in 200g. I now have to take it offline. We had a post a few months back discussing this.
Tank looks great, especially consider the high nutrient level. How long have you been running the BP reactor? It can take a while (like 1 month) to kick in and once it does it should bring down the level quickly. So be careful not overdoing it.
My stay at 8 to 8.4. Gets lower by about 0.1 in winter because of higher co2 level. I had the probe for about 2 years now. Calibrated only once when installed. Now it's covered with quite a bit of pineapple sponge. These probes are not supposed to last that long.
Thanks for the info. What I might be missing as part of the nopox regime was mb7. I remember reading about it but the dosing started working quite quickly so I never thought too much about it. I did dose nitrate as well to maintain the Redfield issue.
I run a reef octopus BP110 with about 500ml of EcoBak pellets in it. 180g water volume medium stocked. Feed the tank the equivalent of 1 large cube of blackworm and some flakes daily.
I have used nopox before I brought back the reactor. It was working great for a while with a low dosage (3ml for 200g water volume) but later on I could not keep the nutrient level down even with increased dosage, as high as 20ml daily. I started to think there was a bacteria die off in my tank...
