Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
What did the bulb look like that made you think that it had been used already? Was there something of the bulb itself (discoloration, etc) that would make you think this? Their arguments and validation based on other items in stock lead me to believe they might just be right on this. I don't...
To take a non-blurry photo shoot straight on to the tank (lens surface parallel to the glass) and be far enough back so that you are beyond the minimum focus distance for your camera/lens. Your camera can only focus so close to the object. Any closer it will be blurry because you're too close...
Have you tried just feeding heavier? I would increase feeding while watching the NO3 and PO4 numbers. Feed more until you start to show it on the tests and then back off a bit. I bet you'd get better colors faster!
Try cutting back to 12 and 5. The light may be contributing by feeding the algae. If you drop the light down it might not prosper quite so much and if it burns out more slowly you might not see the bloom you're seeing.
You may also be feeding too much Rod's food. Try cutting back a bit on that...
Mini brittle stars are like rabbits. They multiply pretty well and I'm sure you'll eventually see more (as if you could count them) down the road. That's really cool that you got to watch it.
Definitely dynos and definitely silicates fed. You need to eliminate the silicates from your system. To do that you need to figure out how you're introducing them. The more water changes you do, the more you'll feed the dynos.
Our dynos were being fed by red sea coral pro salt. Once we changed...
Diatoms are caused by silicates. It is part of a new tank cycle but it could also be introduced. I find I have a big silicate problem with Red Sea Coral Pro salt. Are you sure it is diatoms? I've only seen diatoms on the sand/glass. Not usually something that bothers my corals. What does it look...
Trop used to keep it in their computer. Do they not do that anymore? Are you sure you didn't get the discount? Once they had your expiration date you only needed to let them know when you renewed...
We get discounts at Aquatic Obsession, OGII, Red Sand and Allquatics Tropiquarium (not a sponsor). We do NOT get a discount at THR. We may get a discount at the Aquarium Center, but I'm not sure (this is apparently subject to change based on who's behind the counter).
Unfortunately learning to take pictures of the things in your fish tank isn't something they talk about in the books. There are certainly tricks to getting good photos of your tank that will help your tank photography immensely.
In another thread MrX said that he used a PAR meter to see what affect moving the lights UP had. He says that there is no noticable change in par when the lights are move higher (providing they are not passing through additional water). The best method is to add layers (7) of screen to the tank...
What problem are you having with the photos that you're trying to take? Could you post a few and point out the problems that you see with them? If you can give us some problems you're having it will be easier to help you solve them!
Nikon RULES!
;D
We can not sponsor events/speakers in non-Sponsor locations, so having a speaker to a store that is not a sponsor would be against our operating procedures. Additionally, we really try not to have speakers even at stores. We have so many that are sponsors that we would have to have 6 meetings a...
In addition to all that has been mentioned already (a pretty good list) we have worked to raise awareness with store keepers specifically regarding the bangaii cardinalfish, one that our industry can either save or send to the archives of extinction.
