I recently posted my experience at the Phoenix Aquarium (Sea Life Aquarium, Tempe, AZ), and thought I'd post to find out what aquariums you have visited.
Here are the ones I've visited recently:
Boston, MA
Baltimore, Maryland
Camden, NJ
Seattle, Washington
Juneau, Alaska
Birch Aquarium, La...
Whenever my wife and I travel, time permitting, we like to visit the local aquariums. We spent Christmas week in the Phoenix, Arizona area and visited the local aquarium in Tempe. The Sea Life Aquarium is owned an operated by a UK corporation, which owns multiple aquariums around the world...
The next energy savings I'm considering for my tank is to switch out the MAG 9.5 return pump I've used since 2008 for a Jebao DC pump. I don't know squat about these pumps and would appreciate any comment. Not sure if I should go for the 6000 or 12000 pump. Also, it looks like a straight...
I just purchased this from Ligershark today.....a day old 75gpd Filmtec RO membrane.
When I purchased my RO unit back in 2008, I was told it was a 75 gpd unit. Considering I make 5 gallons in about 90 minutes, that calculates out to 80 gallons a day. Well, I pull my old membrane only to...
I have two older Apollo LED fixtures. Thought I'd check the site and see what was new. HERE is what I found.....Ceasing operations!
Can't remember the owner's name, but he certainly did right by me. Hope all works out for him.
We are grill people....grill all year round. Was recently at a friends house who used a "grill mat" to cook the stuff on the grill. Looked like a piece of plastic. So I purchase two of these and tried them out tonight with a flank steak.
I liked the fact that no marinate cooked...
Just found this guy crusing on the sand. I do have collonista snails, but this guy is way too big for a collonista. Any idea what it is. FYI, I haven't added anything to my tank in ages, with the exception or six trochus snails a week or so ago....and this guy wasn't part of that package.
Caught these two mating moths in my side yard just now. I believe they are the Blinded Sphinx Moth (Paonias Excaecata). I don't see them very frequently, and first time seeing them mating:
I need help! When it comes to electronics, I don't know what I'm doing. A power supply I use crapped out, and upon investigation I found the transformer wasn't putting out any juice. The company wants $190 for the entire power supply, but I only need a new transformer, that I've got to...
I have been very busy the past four days. No time to work on the tanks. Today I was in the back yard all day working on the pool. So around 8 pm I come back into the house to find that the JBJ28 lights were out....temperature was over 85 degress. I have the ReefKeeper to cut the lights...
Thank you Darren and Kami for this months meeting. Both you guys are such generous hosts, making us reef geeks feel welcome and right at home. Kerry and I enjoyed ourselves. Thanks again.
We had company over tonight and were sitting out on our porch where I have our humming bird feeders. I filled it about a week or so ago. A male hummer came in to feed. First one we've seen this season. Seems early, but they are back. Get those feeders out there.
THIS survey over on R2R looks like something that would be of interest to those of use who believe in our mission statement of "encourage conservation and preservation of our natural reefs." If you have a couple minutes, check it out.
Thanks, Paul
I’ve received many remarkable nature photographs over the years but this photo of a nesting Falcon is perhaps the most remarkable Nature shot that I’ve ever seen. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Nature is truly breath-taking!
I've sent this to most of my older friends. The younger ones...
I'm looking to see what other people are using to bypass their DI unit on start-up for the first couple minutes. When I start my RO unit, the TDS is high (80 or so) for the first couple minutes. So what I've been doing to extend the DI is to manually pull out the tubing and flush the RO for...
I saw this over on R2R and thought I'd post it here. BRS is selling a "flat packed" 70 gallon cube for $36. So who is going to be the first to buy this a check it out. Might make a nice frag tank.
So with all this new flake food I have, I thought I'd go back to setting up the autofeeder. The one issue with floating flakes is that too much go down the overflow before it could be eaten. I was aware that Petco had feeding rings on their website, so I stopped into the store. No rings...
I’ve looked at my three hitchhiker sites and can’t find this little creature. I’ve only found them on the sides or bottoms of frag plugs that have been in the sand. Most are about 1/8 inch long…found one about 3/16 inches.
Here are two of the little buggers on the side of a frag plug.
