I woke up this morning and checked out my tank. I see a peppermint shrimp picking at the center of my prized donut (cat's eye) coral. I'm really "t'd" off. What is going on here? Should I be giving more food to the tank? Right now I have a average bioload:
2 clowns
1 green chromis
1 hippo...
I think the best thing about a conroller is in the case of a power failure (depending on your setup). You can use the controller so if the pumps shut off, the controller shuts off you CO2 supply. This way if you tank is down during the day, you don't come home to a situation worsened by a...
Glad to hear things are working out. Generally speaking, cyano in a fuge is normal. It kind of a balancing act to see how much flow is needed to keep cyano away while keeping it low enough to allow full reproduction of pods and such. As is everything in this hobby, it's a very tight balancing...
Dan, cyano in a low flow fuge is normal. Not great, but normal. Be very wary if it spreads. If it does not, and stays local, then it's fine to leave there.
Depending on the purpose of you fuge, you can probably increase the flow - especially where the cyano is - in your fuge.

I'm getting into making aragocrete. After I finish my fist few batchs, and testing the heck out of them, I was wondering if anyone wants to try some of it. I'm thinking of making about 50 lbs. every month or so. I will be seeding it with LR, and either some corraline or frags. Before I got...
Nevermind - just re-read your post. You shouldn't need a drain for a 15 gal. tank.....
Still a good skimmer. You may not get that much skimmate on such a small tank....
It should be fine. It's a little tricky to 'tune' to your system, but once you get it there it's great! Also, depending on the stock of the system you may need to make a drain for it.
Yeah, how true is that. It will be real interesting to see if the addition of an actinic to your current lighting restarts the corraline growth. Keep us all posted!
Thanks! (good to hear it only a bad day and not me that pi**ed you off ;) )

Relax, I'm not picking a fight or anything.... I'm just getting to the thought process behind a methodology that I'm not used to using. That how I can discern weather I'd like to try it or not.
Anyway - the reason I asked about the light is - even with the moon emtting light at night, due to...
Dan - You run your actinics 24/7?
Your fish must be wiggin' out from lack of sleep. Where's the nightime?
Beyond that, I agree with you (and Bob from TRI) it must be the actinic lights that boost the corraline. I have at least 4-5 different colors in my tank as well. I put my actinics on 2...
Bob, I was talking to Bob at TRI about this. He said corraline thrives under actinic. It seems the more actinic you have the better the corraline growth. How much actinic lighting do you have on the 120?
Mike glad to see all is well! Hope the leg mended OK. As you can imagine, my father is VERY happy right now. Actually, they still are in the mindset that it is summer vacation. (I guess after 32 you could get into quite a habit of being used to summer vacation) I think retirement will...
I have 175Ws on a 75gal. tank. Given, the MHs are much less than yours Bob, but I have corraline growing like mad. (It's really one of the few things that grows alot but that's another subject ::) )
I even have good growth near the very top of the tank. I am just amazed that corraline isn't...
reefaholic, If you've had any corraline in your tank, even with too much lighting, you should see some growth. What parameters are you testing which are OK? Give a better description of your setup, including weather you have corraline, and we can help you.
I've bought some stuff from PS. Can't say I was impressed, but it lived. My fav. is still TRI. I know they're expensive, but you certainly get what you paid for with them.
Mike, have you broken off any pavona lately? ;D
FYI - my parents just retired yesterday, so you can't go back to...
