I have my kalk tank hooked up to a BRS doser which is hooked up to my Apex. I'm dosing a little bit every hour, 24 hours a day. I have my Tunze ATO hooked up to a separate reservoir.
I don't see a problem with you making up 5 gallons of kalk for the week. Just make sure to have a cover on it...

Are you stuck on the 55? I had one for about three and a half years, and hated it. The front to back dimension is really limiting. If you can, I'd go with a 75 or even a 40 breeder.
BTW, I'm in Yardville, five minutes from Trenton.
