Both of those will help. I've had my windows open for a couple weeks and though I don't have a PH probe on my tank any more, I've been having a really hard time maintaining alkalinity.

Nothing ever does what you think it'll do 100% of the time. Years ago I had a starry blenny that killed a watchman goby, 2 clownfish, and a Pygmy angel.
Last year I had a watchman goby eat a 2 inch engineer goby.
I'd love to go but that's gonna be a bit of a hike for me coming from Atlantic City. I'll be at the fish / coral show the weekend prior. Don't want to push my luck with the family
