Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Two four foot Perfecto lights up for grabs. I used these over a 75 gallon freshwater tank, but will also fit a 55. Good for a saltwater FO or FOWL. One has a brand new bulb. Pickup in Sayreville.
Wow Bill, great to hear from you. Well I guess I can sit back and put my feet up knowing you're on board. With the two of use, Erna and Doug can enjoy their vacation without worries. This is what this club is about.....take note new(er) members....get involved.
Erna....another old-timer still here...good to see...not that we're old, just aging gracefully. I was at your house when you and Doug hosted a meeting maybe 10-12 years ago...and I'm terrible with time. I'm going to PM my cell phone info in case there is something your tank-sitting friend...
Finding Waldo! Herbie actually had more like 12 powerheads hidden in his tank. What is critical is that you need to overcome what Dana Riddle terms, "The Boundary Layer" for corals to improve growth. This was a great talk by Dana that should be mandatory viewing by all:
Between Herbie...
I am terrible with time, but I'd guess in 2012 Marineland decided to maximize profits over an established and quality pump, and redesign and have a Chinese company produce the MJ series of pumps, the MJ1200 being the premier pump of this line....with the "oldtimers" we all had one of more of...
Any and all color changing titrations work the same way.....Color change from COLOR A to COLOR B. Once Color A appears to have disappeared, read the syringe. Add one more drop, if no additional color change, take the prior reading. If color continues to change, add one drop at a time...
I'd highly suggest a ductless HVAC unit.....very common in Europe, but gaining interest in the States. Mitsubishi is a common brand here. However, if you're DIY handy, you can order off Amazon (or other sites) and install yourself. HERE's an example....you'll need to calculate the BTU's...
Herb and Anne, you two are very special people. Sad to see you leaving, with the club losing one of the best. You will be missed. Godspeed to you and Anne.
John, this is yours if it meets your needs....
I believe flex for 1 inch and for 1 1/2 inch standard fittings. This pic is of the stuff labeled 1 1/8, but that's a standard 1 inch PVC fitting on the end. You can see that it makes pretty tight turns, how it's rolled up in the box. Maybe 15-...
Nitrite is an issue with freshwater fish, but saltwater, it really is of little concern. It would have to be through the roof before it became a problem.
I was with Edwin today and he mentioned this post and felt compelled to reply. Vinegar is an odd little acid (acetic acid) that has the ability to permeate plastic. The vinegar is getting to the magnet and causing it to start to rust (oxidize), and in the process swell....eventually breaking...
There's a six foot non-reef ready tank on the curb on Rhodes Street in Sayreville....might be a 180. If wanted, need to get it NOW because it's out there for big pickup.
Two videos for you....
Getting air out:
Rebuilding valve....take note of freeze and wear comments. You might wish to first take your valve apart to see if anything is obvious before ordering a kit:
