I have a 5100k CF bulb over the sump. I've heard people say run the light 24/7 and some say opposite of DT. I'm actually contemplating getting some grape caulerpa as well. Just to see which macro will fit my needs best.
Well, I bought a ball of chaeto today to try and help with this brown film algae that is growing on my overflow box and glass. I have no experience with macro algae but I've done a little reading. Here goes nothing..
Wrap the tank in blankets if your temp starts slipping. Siphon a few gallons of water out of your tank, letting it splash into your bucket for aeration, then dump it back into the tank.
Looks good! I'm getting ready to do what I can when we lose power.
Some foam board I had laying around. I cut it to size and will tape it to the tank if my temp starts slipping. I only had enough for three sides but better than nothing. I hang a blanket on the other side.
Aerator and back up...
Thanks guys/girls! Here is a couple pics of my set-up. I built the stand, canopy and sump box(I'm a little proud of it). I was working on a budget when I built the sump so I used my HOB skimmer. It's a Reef Octopus BH 2000. I'd much rather have an in-sump skimmer but this little guy does kick...
Well, I did not find a generator...All I have is a little aerator and two sets of batteries. I'll try to use the aerator sparingly and keep a close eye on my temp if we lose power. Good luck all!
I'd rather not rent if I can avoid it. At $60-80 a day, I may as well buy one. Although, I'd hate to lose my tank if we lose power for an extended period of time.
If I could do it all over again I wouldn't buy a single piece of equipment until I read and then read some more. That being said, figure out what your space and budget allows. Get the biggest tank you can. Figure out what animals you would like to keep. Your first purchase should be an RO/DI unit.
