Well that didn't last long. Noticed high water in the sump again....that is, the first float switch isn't working again on the ATO. Now when I go to pull it off, the tube that is supposed to keep the top of the float switch dry has about a 1/2 inch of water in it!!!
That's it...off...
We should have a forum just for DOH! moments. I know I could easily add to it.....may times over.
Glad to see the light has worked out (for the time being), but I'd also consider opening it back up and wiping/cleaning it with something like WD40. Otherwise the residual salt will cause for...
Joe, I don't know....maybe bioload, quality of the pellets, fat bacteria, my Redfield is better than yours, are you also running GFO or cheato, who knows.
When all was running well I had:
2 tangs (Yellow and Scopas)
2 pajama cardinals
1 Coral Beauty
1 Long Nose Butterfly
2 Clowns

OK, here's the poop on copper. It really wouldn't stick to non reactive smooth surfaces. So things like glass or plastic, a wash in a mild acid (vinegar) will knock the copper right off. So glass or plexi tanks, glass heaters, plastic filters....all fine.
I appreciate @HerbieK success...
Joe, I've heard this happening with carbon, which is a relatively soft material, but never with biopellets. Biopellets are a hard plastic.
If I stated I was going through pellets quickly, I apologize, because I believe my use is reasonable. The only thing I don't like is the cost....I think...
As I mentioned above, I cleaned my biopellet reactor for the first time, and boy, was it clogged up. I thought I had a bad pump, but it was just schmutz stuck in the small ports within the reactor. This thing is swirling better than when I first set it up. I have the pump totally closed...
You will hear folks stating you need 10X volume for your return pump. However, that's not necessarily true. With some systems, 10X would be very noisy....and potentially too much flow, especially if it's a small sump. You'd be just fine down to 5 times DT volume, or even less. Either...
Interesting thought @njtiger24 aquariums . I actually have shrink tubing that would fit around the threads. However, what's unknown (to me) is whether or not it would act like telfon once the tubing protector is threaded on. If that was the cause, I'd go for it. But for now I'm going to...
So I've been playing with my float switches over the past couple days. I take them off....they work....I put them back in, they crap out....I take them off, they work....I think you get it. Did this three times, but I think I've discovered the reason. The top of these switches can't get...
Just heard back from the eBay seller and he was willing to change to the PP15's. However, I've also read a bunch of reviews and what scares me are a fair number who are saying things like, "They died in 1 month...2 months...3 months." Seems like quite a few of these types of reviews. I'd...
Did you drill a hole in the elbow? If you didn't, you'll get repeating siphoning on and off.....and noisy.
Your other option is a Maggie Muffler.....and you can easily DIY them if you wish.....just google DIY maggie muffler.
Thanks Sunny. I purchased these off eBay and just sent the seller an email to see if he'd be willing to change the order to the PP15 models. He has them as well for an additional $20 per. Have to wait and hear from him.
