Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I own five Vortechs, and I'm afraid if I vote against them, one of the dry sides might just have it's bearings start to sing. It's already happened once, and I don't want it to happen again.
Using my fingers and toes and then some, I'm only counting 48 LEDs. Assuming they are the common three watt variety, and that's a six foot tank, that's still not enough light (for sps anyway). Are you supplementing with some other light source?
Paul, this doesn't sound very good for you. If you've lost your hair, have a propensity for supermodels, are experiencing hip pain, and are now seeing blotches, this will quickly be followed by rapid onset dementia! :o
You can't get much simplier than the canopy I built.....made with inexpensive fir strips and 1/4 inch plywood. Here it is opened up so you could see the two LED's and full access.
Information on the build is in my Tale, and starts HERE. It starts on post 171 and includes posts 176...
Slave boy is in because of Easter break, and I'm cracking the whip.
While I await the arrival of the new blue LED beads from China, the 36 fried-to-a-crisp LEDs were removed from the board. Here's what a pile of burnt LEDs looks like:
And here's the board with the thermal compound...
I should have clarified this "additional heat" comment. First off the top of the canopy is open, although the T5 reflectors do partially block the open-ness of the top of the canopy. I would also imagine that the reflectors reflect heat downward as well.
What I noticed was after the...
Well Bill, not sure how long the T5's will last. Even though it's only two bulbs, I'm not liking the additional heat. Once I fix my LED fixtures, I'll most likely pull the T5's and try three 120W LED fixtures over my five foot 90 gallon.
Welcome back Bill! When you're ready you may stop by and take whatever softies I have that interests you....pulsing xenia, large hairy mushroom, regular mushrooms, clove polys, palys, etc.
My kid had a red-eared for maybe 6 - 7 years and that out-grew a 75 gallon tank. Phil, you're old, so how do you fit a red-eared in a breeder? Here's my kid's red-ear in the 75.
So Pete, are those 48 LED fixtures? and four fixtures....total of 192 LEDs?
I can control two channels on each unit independently.....and the Apollos are very blue....16 whites (a couple reds on one) and the remaining 36 blue. I just might try this and see what I get. As you...
I've recently mentioned the Apollo LED issue I have and also putting two T5's back into my lighting system. While I wait for the slow boat from China for my new LED beads for the Apollo repair, the fixture taking it's place is an old TaoTronics LED. So I'm now back to two fixed current 55...
Wow! That certainly is deceiving......from the picture I was guessing a 6 foot 120! I guess the scratches put it over the edge anyway. And I was hoping to see that pretty castle in your new tank Mike.
Herb and Ann, there is never any doubt that with you guys hosting, it will be a great meeting. Thank you for opening your house to a group of reef geeks.
Mike, are you saying you don't have a castle in your tank? :p
As far as I know, no medications stick or are absorbed by glass or silicone that a good vinegar bath won't remove.
If you go for it and I'm around, I'll give you a hand loading it up....it's just down the road from me.
Anyone want a big tank.....my wife just showed this to me.
Large fish tank for sale in estate sale in Sayreville (Parlin section). Have no info on it, but it must go this weekend if anyone is interested. HERE's the sale info.
Massive fish tank (can easily be removed from behind...
For those of us who have a Goldilocks' tank.......not too big........and not too small.......but just right, the 40B is an ideal tank for a sump. Great time to pick up a spare.
Thanks for the heads up.
