Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I remember these from my diving days in the early 70's when I dove the Florida Keys. They would literally cover the bottom where you couldn't even find a spot to kneel or touch down. What was wild is that they could "see" you (my guess is the shadow), and the spines would follow you as you...
The Arctic Silver is a pretty good thermal conductor, but it also is an electrical conductor....it actually contains silver. This will be used between the finned aluminum and the flat plate aluminum. So with the LEDs, the electrical connections are very close to where the contact is made with...
The trigger has been pulled.....I've order the stuff needed to fix this fixture. Actual costs (tax not included)
50 Blue Leds - $19.99
Noctua NT-H1 Thermal Compound - $6.99
Arctic Silver 5 (2 pack) - $10.47
So the materials costs (minus tax) to fix the fixture comes to...
Shamed Back Into T5's
With all the folks adding T5's back into their LED systems, I too bit the bullet and added two 54W bulbs to my tank.
I still have my entire retro IceCap system, and even though I have an IceCap 430 ballast to run these two bulbs, I'm not going to use it. I'm...
The bother is their spines.....they'll move stuff all around for you with their spines.....maybe even wear a couple frags. Otherwise they won't "eat" anything other than algae.
Thank you for your kind offer. However, I have a slave-boy....I mean future son-in-law....who is a student at Stevens Institute striving for a degree in Electrical Mumbo Jumbo. He has offered to do everything on this fix. With his schedule, it most likely will be an upcoming weekend...
Well I was about ready to pull the trigger and do the repair....and then I saw THIS. Another Apollo user with fried LEDs. Granted, he had fan issues. So now I'm back up in the air. I'm not sure what to do.......more mulling I guess.
I think this is great news! Novartis was sold to Eli Lilly and they straightened out their issues over poor manufacturing practices to get this back on the market.
I'm also going to include what I said on another site:
However, I think what surprises me, especially if this was the...
Realize I have old Apollos with the steel case (they eventually changed to aluminum) and no adjustment capability (they eventually included pots...and then control-ability with controllers, such as Apex.) So my lights are either full ON 100%, or totally OFF. If you have adjustability you...
Looking great Tom. I think this is the first I've taken note of your tank. So I'll have to say that the tank and the light setup look fantastic. In looking at the pictures I was concerned that the ballast would be visible. But is appears it's down enough that it's not seen...
Amen to the frustrating part! And the rewarding part always seems so fleeting. I correlate this hobby to the output graph of a heart monitor.....your up and your down, your up and your down, your up and your down.....just as long as you don't flat-line, you're ahead of the game.
I think you like to keep very old equipment!
Paul, what I liked about your video.....other than your nice looking fish.....was the sound. Knowing your antique age and unusual equipment, it sounds like you're using an old 16mm film camera to record the video. I'm liking it.....deja vu the...
Mark, my first guess are snail eggs. I believe nerites leave individual eggs.....white spots on your glass. Leave them for a couple days and see if they crawl away.
EDIT TO ADD:
I just looked up nerite eggs, and here's an example:
Pete, haven't decided yet.....the fix is 40-50 bucks...and the concern is that it still might happen again because unsure of the original cause. And I'm happy with LED's.....actually happy I'm not spending $130/year for bulb replacement on the T5's I originally had.
I was not around much in late October through to the first of January and didn't do much maintanence on the tank. I saw a considerable decline in the appearance and thought it was due to this lack of maintanence. So the beginning of January, being back home, I did major water changes, and...
Thanks guys for the link to the fan......0.05A.....that's unbelievable.
Here is where my head is at right now.....do I spend the money to fix this three year old light fixture or do I put it towards a new light. I'm not sure if the cause of the problem is cured, so fixing what is...
