    Looks like cyano. When you siphon it out does it come as like a sheet? I have the same stuff in my tank which I am battling but to speak the truth I have not done too much to fight it (beside siphon out); I need to get on top of it.

    That would leave 1.5 inches of over hang on each side. It might cause some shadowing in the lights but I'm not too sure if it would make a difference or not

    I don't see why not. By what I can tell all it does it support the cable for the lights so as long as you have the right cables you should be good.

    Yes put some holes in the cap. I had the same issue and I added holes to the cap and solved the issue
