I do run 100 micron nylon and I'm happy with them.
I change them every other day and wash them as Phil describes.
If there wasn't something for them to filter, they wouldn't get dirty! I'm happy when I can see they are doing their job. ;)
Hey Kat!
So the frogspawns don't mind the hosting? I've avoided clowns in my LPS tank for this reason.
Don't know if you saw the pics of my 180, but it's mostly frogs and hammers and I want them as open as possible.
I used the foamcore or signboard being discussed. Black.
If you are careful when you cut it you can get a nice snug fit and it just snaps in.
Mine of course required some tape. One panel good, one not so much! ;D
After aquariums comes trains. When I'm done with all the consolidations from the 180 upgrade I should have room for a new 10' x 12' layout. I model S hi-rail.
Use to play hockey (goalie) now I watch. I've had the privlege of skating with Rod Gilbert and Ogie Oglethorpe!
A bit of a gamer before...
The clowns are staying in the 75 with the LTA. The 180 has know anemones but lots of Euphyllia that clowns love to host in when there are no availableanemones.
I don't want them to try and host any of the LPS in the 180 as that can lead to annoyed LPS that don't extend enough.
When I setup the...
Glad to hear about the pygmy because I have decided to move mine to the 180.
I had a pair of ocellaris clowns, a radiant wrasse, yellow watchman gobi and a pygmy angel in the 55. I was wrestling with making the 75 a honeymoon suite for the clowns, but I didn't want to move the radiant to the...
I think when all the chemical companies learned their products were being used for reefkeeping they just wanted to protect themselves. I've used Randy's 2-part on and off for a few years and haven't had any problems from impurities.
I have moved away from it however to simplify my maintenance...
That's why I posted this thread. Sometimes people's enthusiasm to help the new folks makes it seem like their way is the only way. If you have a good understanding of basic reef chemistry and biology, you can learn how to make any system work.
Yep! The pecking order has been established and scuffling is minimal at this point.
A lot more fish than I usually keep. 10 at the moment, but nitrates are .2 and the skimmer is pulling 2-3 cups a day.
It's a CSS125 by the way. :)
I fill the nori clip twice a day and everyone stays fat and...
Great thread for the "You can only run a reef this way!" crowd.
Paul B's over 35 year old reef.
Paul kept counting after he transferred his 40 to a 100 so I guess my 180 is 3 years old today as this would have been the former tank's birthday. :D
Agreed! A simple approach of topoff with kalk and frequent water changes has worked best for me.
The more I tried to tweak things with additives, the worse my alk would get.
;D Not stupid, but I'm sure you guessed the answer is yes!
I have 6 6ft bulbs for a total of 960watts running on 3 IceCap 660's.
2 Super Actinic from 11:00am to 11:45pm.
2 50/50 from 12:00 noon to 10:00pm
1 AquaSun and 1 Super Actinic from 2:00pm to 8:00pm.
Thanks everyone for the positive feedback. Visitors are always welcome!
I think I'm starting to see signs of growth, but I'm still worrying about setbacks from the move. This is the tough part of reefing, keeping your hands off until something really needs to be done. ;)
Sorry about the bug eye thing Wendy but the tank looks fantastic.
I would have chimed in sooner but work blocks a lot of the picture hosting sites and I didn't get to see your pics until now.
I think you Aussie thing is an Aussie Scolymia thing, and it's cool!
BTW, anyone who likes Aussie...
I was wondering why the wide difference in reproduction rates. Sounds like a good hunch.
Since I have a larger relative bioload in the 180 than I had before, I'll watch for larger populations.
