    Salt Analysis

Re: Without starting a WAR Nice try! I can only speak to my own experience. I have used Instant Ocean, Reef Crystals and Tropic Marin. I have had to do some supplementation with all of them. A little more on the ALk and a little less on the Mag since I made the last switch to Tropic Marin...

    Salt Analysis

Re: Without starting a WAR I won't tell you what salt to use. But I will mention that this test mixed a fixed amount of salt mix to a fixed amount of water and not a mix to achieve the SG you would desire to use in your tank. The point being, you cannot just look at the individual numbers and...

    Zoa Lighting selection

A man after my own heart! ;) You can get 4 bulbs, 440watts VHO over a 55. Use two ballasts and enjoy an actinic only dusk cycle. You can't beat the color, but will get slower growth. Check out hellolights for their ARO220 retrokit. You need 46.5" to fit in a standard 48" canopy easily.

    My 75g Already in Progress!

Thanks for the kind words. The lighting is indeed T12 VHO's. 330w UV 50/50 Actinic White and 220w UV Super Actinics. I'll be updating this thread in a few weeks as I have to address an interesting problem. Growth has been so good the last few months that coral wars have erupted big time. The...

    Quarentine Tanks?

I QT all fish and dip corals. I have QT'd corals in the past. If I were working with SPS, I would QT considering all those really nasty things like red bugs. But I've been good with the leathers zoas and LPS so far. I had a 30 qt that is now a frag tank since I had considered all tanks closed...

    Conversion to 180g

Looks great John and Phyl! Hang in there John, you'll love it. I tore down most of my 55 softie, auto fragged some stuff too. Two days later I loved it. ;D Nothing on the scale of what you folks did. If I ever get out of work I'll take pics and post. And yes, I am still at work since noon...

    Powerhead flow for filtration?

The price for that approach is lower stocking levels and more frequent water changes. Both good things IMHO.

    When will I learn...

There is no escape, we are all doomed to Reefer Madness! 8) Thanks for the laugh Candi. I don't know how many times I though about writing one of these stories. Each time, by the time it was over, I was to pooped to write. And then I would resort to adult beverages to erase the painful...

The ZEN 90 Build Inspired by Takashi Amano

I'm re-doing my 55 and I was going to post the large group of colonies in the center for sale. They are attached to a good sized piece of dead elkhorn from my original tank in 1972, before we used rock. I also have very green GSP's. If you are interested, I will be working on the tank tonight if...
