Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
We have strayed a bit from the point of this thread.
I was speaking specifically about Aquatraders issues and not debating the concept of high end reefing vs. budget reefing.
If you check back through my posts on this board you will find that I frequently break with tradition and I...
Differ away! Your results may vary. There are also a few threads going back a year or two ago where metal halide fixtures were blowing capacitors and catching on fire.
The bottom line is, my story happened exactly as described. Glad yours had a better ending.
My advice to anyone considering...
Mike's recommendation is on target.
You should always quarantine first. It gives the fish a chance to build up strength. Pygmy Angels in particular should have some well established live rock to graze on in the QT tank. See if you can get some Ocean Nutrition Pygmy Angel frozen food.
Sorry for your losses Dave.
I had my Ocellaris pair for almost 10 years. They just started spawning last fall. After about 3 or 4 clutches the female stopped eating. She lasted a little over a month after that.
The first few times she laid eggs, the male did all the work tending the eggs. The...
It should be between 125 and 200 ppm. 100 ppm is 2 meq or 5.6 dkh which is low.
What are your other parameters? SG, ph, CA and MG in particular?
What salt are you using and how often do you do water changes? I would test the water you mix for water changes and if it tests OK, I would slowly...
I have a sumpless 55 gallon for my soft coral collection.
I use a Fluval 104 for carbon. I change one tray every other week.
If you have powerheads for flow, run a skimmer and have a decent amount of live rock, you don't need a large canister. I just run one for media like carbon.
I also...
They really look cool if you get them growing on the back glass!
I frag mine as they come to the edges of the rocks I want to restrict them to by grabbing a loose edge and peeling back. Cut with a razor.
The problem seems to be restricted to AquaTraders and not necessarily the manufacturers. You can find lots of folks happy with Jebo products, but when you get Jebo from AquaTraders you have lots of problems. Some folks believe they are handling refurbished products.
My suggestion is if you see...
It died. It was one of those $60 dual T5's.
To return it for repair would cost over $40 by UPS. Then they agreed it was only the ballast that I needed to return. That cost about ten bucks. When I got the new ballast, it died in 2 days.
I filed a claim with Better Business Bureau and my credit...
Unless things have changed drastically in the last year, do not buy anything from Aquatraders.
Search Reef Central for threads discussing them. They pass off reworked items as new and have a horrible quality record.
I have first hand experience with a T5 unit. ::)
I have some encrusting kind of stuff that I have been holding since the frag swap that Ricky Fins donated. I'll see if I can get some pictures and post for identification and personal abuse! ;D
