Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Good luck with the new clowns. Keep us posted.
You can always add more light if you need to your sump. Prices are really coming down on led's recently. A small fixture with some good optics could work if your CFL's don't seem like they are going to cut it. I have kept RBTA's under CFL spot...
The clowns don't need an anemone to live. I wouldn't bother unless they were wild caught clowns. Just more problems with lighting.
Oh, your kids were probably looking for the interaction right?
+1 Like downbeach said.
If you are going to try that you should add them in a vessel that hangs in the tank. Let the fish see each other but not be able to interact physically. You should be able to get a sense of if it will work. I actually have raised Ocellaris and GSM together. They were...
I just checked my refractometer with ro water. The reading was dead on 0. Then I used calibration solution and the reading was dead on 35 ppm. I did not have to adjust a thing. So my ro calibration is just as dead on as using the calibration solution. Take it with a grain of salt. If you have...
I didn't soak mine. I didn't know I was supposed to. At first the pellets had a tendency to want to float. Not anymore though. The pellets did their soaking in the reactor.
I was going to post the same thing but I couldn't edit my post. I waited too long. If nothing else is available pure water works. It is sure better than being 25 ppm off. At least you can get it within acceptable ranges.
You can take some RO DI water and adjust the refractometer to zero. It may not be the most accurate way but it will be very close to right on. There is a little screw near the glass under a small rubber cap. You need one of those little eyeglass type screwdrivers. His refractometer should have...
I can't possibly take my boat out and transport 55 gallons a day back to my house. This approach is not practical or money or time saving. Would be great if it could be done inexpensively and timely but it can't. I am going to try homemade. I have to try something I bought my third 200 gallon...
I added two more cups to my reactor today. That brings it up to the recommended amount for my size tank. No cloudy water at all this go round. I had slight clouding with first addition. That cleared up by the next morning.
Magnesium sulfate (or magnesium sulphate) is a chemical compound containing magnesium, sulfur and oxygen, with the formula MgSO4. It is often encountered as the heptahydrate epsomite (MgSO4·7H2O), commonly called Epsom salt, from the town of Epsom in Surrey, England, where the salt was distilled...
I have a thousand gallons to maintain. If you do the math that is 20 percent a week. I have to change that much because of the heavy feedings raising clown fish. It actually doesn't seem to be enough water changes. Besides high nitrates my phosphates are through the roof. Algae becomes an issue...
