Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
You don't need to reinforce if the tank is along the outside wall. The load goes straight to the foundation.
If you DO feel the need to reinforce, you need to break through the floor (which is only an inch or two thick), dig down several feet and pour proper concrete footings. Otherwise the...
I had a 12" snowflake try to eat my clowns (in my old tank). But he learned real quick that wasn't a good idea when he followed them into their anemone. It was like something out of a cartoon, his face stopped but his body kept moving, then he ran away as fast as he could slither.
To me, eels...
eBay has them pretty regularly. I keep thinking about getting one myself, but I really don't think I could hang enough stuff on it to justify the purchase. Now, an elliptical machine makes a NICE coatrack.
But DO skin the stand... Plywood (even 1/4" will be ok), the plywood is CRITICAL to the stand's strength. You can do plywood on three sides, then triangles of plywood in the corners on the back. It'll support a car.
My concern with the vinegar was that it brings my pH down a bit, which can help the dinos grow. So I'm thinking that when I resume dosing, I'll switch to vodka. I don't think the vinegar was the cause, more likely just a new-tank thing + low(ish) pH. Day to day my pH is now 8.2-8.4, still not...
Yeah, I think that's good advice. I wasn't able to siphon very much, partly due to the way I have to access the tank from the back, and partly because I was thinking big big big for the siphon. Seems so obvious, a hard tube + some airline might have worked way better.
In any case, I think the...
So I had a setback, with dinoflagellates taking over and smothering my corals. I fought for a few days with a turkey baster, but it got to the point where I'd clean them off, only to find them covered again just a couple hours later.
I did the following:
* Cut back on feeding
* Stopped vinegar...
Corals are in recovery mode, so I didn't see much of anything. Had a bad dino outbreak, had to go lights out for several days. Lights are at 50%, 6 hours a day. Which makes it even more impressive that the crab figured out it was a full-moon.
I think your BMW analogy is good, except you're applying it wrong: A used Rebel or some other camera is not a BMW... It's a Honda: Solid, dependable, safe, good to learn on. A camera like a 5DmkIII is a BMW. The GE gets bad reviews for image quality and speed... This is the equivalent of a car...
