Paul...you are correct. After some research it is in fact possible to get the bends from free diving, but it is rare. From my research it happens more often if you do many free dives in a row. I thought that since they are not breathing that it wouldn't effect the nitrogen in the blood as much...

No answer your question directly....I find that Salifert kits are usually the most accurate. But also check out the Hanna Colorimeters...they are coming out with new ones all the time and I find those even better than Salifert kits.

I ordered and received the lye....I just have to go buy some Kalk and then I can try this. What I am concerned with are the fish in the tank. If a fish swims into the lye that is on an aptasia, will it affect the fish? Are we sure the lye does nothing to the water composition?

I have done the freezer method....they are stressed at first from being in a bag or container, but they calm down shortly after.

I was there a few years ago...it was an awesome aquarium! I think we spent about 6 hours there. Have fun!
