I have a lot in my tank. And they are always green. But they usually stay on the rocks because I had lots of coralline algae. It is funny that when I put the harlequin in, several went to the glass or turned white like they were afraid. I sort of reminded me that when a killer whale kills a...
I have been having a few problems with my SPS. The Duncan lost 3 heads. I check parameters, changed carbon and a 15 gallons or water change.
My coralline algae is disappearing due to the asterina sea stars. I placed a harlequin into the tank. I rarely have one on my glass, but there were 4 on...
I have 2 heaters in my main tank. Both undersized. If one locks on, it is not likely to overheat the tank. I have one for my water change that I drop into 5 gallon containers to preheat it. I do this since I store them in the garage where it gets cold. I have one flat heater for a emergency...
Welcome Funghi! You can get your fill of mushrooms in a reef as well. But I wouldn't eat them. There is a Display Tank Challenge forum for 2.5 gallon tanks or less. In this case, it is without mechanical filtration. Participate in it if you want. Also there is forum for pico lovers. I don't...
Galvanized is usually a thicker coat of zinc coated by placing the steel in a molten zinc bath. You can usually see a grain pattern in the coating. I would look in the building construction connector section as those items are usually hot dipped galvanized or triple zinc plated.
Zinc plated steel will not last as long as hot dipped galvanized or stainless in a salt environment. This would be more of a concern if there is salt spray, such as from popping bubbles. The humidity in the area will be high also, so they may always be moist. Many pieces like these are punched...
In my observations, often what is sold as base rock is very dense and may not be as porous as dry live rock. It may be mined from the land, but at least it doesn't hurt the reef. As such, it may not function as well to remove ammonia, nitrite or nitrate in a sparse aquarium. If you byy dry live...
You asked, "Why does my skimmer make gurgling nosies? Stated only in the last three months. Before this it was silent"
You may be able to reduce it on one side by closing the valve so that it is 0nly suction, with no break in the suction line. Or, if it is already closed that far, then opening...
They may be in too much flow (try a low flow area). Cyanobacteria may be irritating their exterior (blow off the corals with a baster). They may be seeing too much light (lower them in the tank or place in a darker area). The water conditions are a little too clean for them (I don't know what to...
I notched the lid to fit over the top spigot. Flow was too high that it dislodged many of the mushrooms. I tried bubbles, but everything in the tank became covered in bubbles and evaporation skyrocketed. And that is with the smallest pump I could find and a valve to limit air flow. I wanted to...
I set out the first few days of food so they can see how much. I usually go over a dry run. I tell them if they forget one that that is better than overfeeding. I also make a bigger water change before and make sure to replace all filters.
Bubble algae has green or, as I found out lately, red balls that are hollow inside. Cyanobacteria can have bubble grow under a mat or in strings. You can't tell from this picture. Look up bubble algae images. Once you see images, you can decide more easily.
How do you get a black background and have enough light to get that first photo. Just look at the detail in the fins.
What a great photo of the starfish. I really liked this one as I have no large starfish.
I liked that the orange fish appeared to be exasperated at the hermit crabs. Like it is...
There should be more choices. When I first started, I used natural seawater. I also used, tap water and a salt mix to initially fill the tank as I was looking to start a fish tank. I purchased my first corals primarily to bring in coralline algae into my tank. Now I use a premix. Part of the...
