Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
No need to tread lightly! We're all here for discussion. But if he's seeing the end of Nitrates then he either started with almost cycled rock or it was DEAD rock when he started with barely any life. So he's either ready to be up and running or he needs to START a cycle. I can't tell from here...
Seriously! I've had 1 in my system for over 2 years. Never opens fully. It hasn't died, but I wouldn't call what it does living. I think you could say it is in hibernation! ;D
If you're going to wait to put anything in it, you're going to need to "feed the bioload" or it will all just die off again. Your tank is now at the end of a cycle (albeit rather short). So you either need to continue to add a fuel source (fish food, coctail shrimp, etc) to keep the cycle going...
We keep a predominantly LPS tank. Lots of frogspawn and the like, lots of lobos, chalice pieces, acans... And a few SPS thrown in for good measure! I don't have any pictures handy. Maybe I'll catch a couple tomorrow night.
Bits of the To MH or Not to MH thread have been split off and merged into this thread as Arvin is purely looking at MH v. T5.
Just a reminder: Make sure to keep your conversations production and not judgemental.
I think the Hidden Reef will take those off your hands for you. Might want to check with them! As for controlling them? You can put them in my tank. They don't grow in there.
Add me to the list of those without a future in the hobby :)
Alrighty then. I'll leave it like this and will hopefully see my nitrates begin to fall in the tank. About how long does that part of the process take to see results? Is that something that I'll see change from one day to the next or will it take a week or more to drop (from 20)? I'm just trying...
Using a Salifert test kit, it looks like the trates may be .1-.5 (clear looking down with a hint pink if you use the low range angle). Is that good enough, or should I crank it up a little more? The test strips are still showing so close to zero that the color change is difficult to see.
Re: To MH or not to MH?
Ham says that he had to turn down the output to the solaris so that he didn't burn his corals. I think Sam is having the same "issue". The corals seem to be getting "more than enough" light, according to them. I have MH and haven't played with the LEDs so I really can't...
We picked up the 250. We've got 2/3 Matrix and 1/3 sulfur. We have enough media on hand still to setup a second reactor! Better enough than not enough when the time came though. Turning off the flow into the reactor while it seeded did well to kick start things.
I'll be looking forward to...
You don't HAVE to spend money at Mac's... You can just come for the good time! :) You should have shopped around more yesterday, I'm sure you could have found just the right pump, lol.
If you're really bailing then don't forget to un-RSVP from the list so that we can keep an accurate head count!
