Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Mike, I think a snail got in it. I'd try to snake it out using a smaller diameter PE tubing (a little stiff). Try to get through the length of it from one side. It probably won't be easy, but hopefully you'll push the snail through.
Nitrates are around 10 with Salifert, testing higher (20?) with strips (which I'll use as a quick check to follow progress). The orp probe is established. Been in the system since last year when we were thinking of running ozone. It was calibrated at the time, but not since.
I shook it up real...
Just make sure you know your running water line v. your system-down line. The running line needs to be low enough to accomodate all of the water that back siphons out of your tank when the power is shut down to the pump in the sump.
We bought the media in the PA group buy. I doubt we'll get the orp probe running tonight. Sounds harder than it looks, lol. We will get it flushed through tonight and then tomorrow if we don't get the Orp probe working we'll start watching trates.
Carlo, Upon cutting a BNC cable apart... I've found, as I suspected, a cable that doesn't look like it can be crossed over. How do you cross the cable when the one wire comes through the center and the other wires wrap around the center core? It looks like a cable coaxial wire in there. Any help...
We picked up the coralife unit today. I like that it has the recirc & a place for the Orp probe. Not sure how much cheaper you can pick up a unit that has both. Not that the PH probe is necessary, but I think the recirc helps.
I'm hoping to get it running tonight. ;D
We'd be there...
Except that by the time we got there, it would be bedtime for the little ones! Wish Happy birthday to Maria from me and have a drink for me!
I'll hazard to guess they'll go back up, Rich. What you were doing was having an affect for sure. It would be interesteding to know exactly what was going on. Too bad none of us are chemists.
Thanks Carlo. Most posts on RC talk about O2 depleting the water before it goes into the reactor. Why do you think that isn't necessary with the way you run yours? Would the recirc not be necessary if you coiled the in feed for say 100' before you hit the reactor? Seems to me lots of reactors...
Hey Mushmatt, welcome to NJRC. As Mike said, the more the merrier. I used to dive out of LBI all the time. Boat dives mostly at the time. Haven't dove out of there in years though.
The Belmar boat basin makes for an easy, if not necessarily exciting dive!
The sump will show the evaporation. The overflow will maintain a constant level. We keep our Auto Top Off sensor in the sump and it controls when to add water back to the sump.
Thanks, Adesimone!
I've read that you need to O2 deprive the reactor water to have the desired results. We were thinking about having a coil of black PE tubing going into the first reactor so that the water going in was O2 deprived (bacteria that builds up in the tube depletes the O2 before it...
You wouldn't want your closed loop pump feeding anything else anyway (unless that was also going to return to the tank... otherwise it wouldn't be a closed loop). I thought you were referring to the sump return pump. The manifold is cool if you're going to be feeding these out of the sump and...
What's your drip rate on that coming out of the reactors (or is it a normal outflow for the Phosban style reactor)? Is your effluent hose under water or above the water line? Are you running it through black tubing first to reduce the O2 content of the feed water?
We should plan our next dive trip before the summer gets any further away from us! Who's in and when are we going?
UPDATE
We are going to do the Belmar basin Dive on August 19th. We will plan another dive after this one is under way.

I'm interested in hearing from those who are running a Sulfur Denitrator. Which one do you have? How is it working for you? Pictures would be great. Is there a need for the water to be O2 deprived going into the reactor? What are the pros of the unit you're using? Cons?
