Do the bulbs rattle? Do they look the same inside?

    Lens selection (Macro, Zoom)

Re: Re: Eye Candy... a 300mm lens and a 300mm MACRO lens would be two different things. A Macro lens allows you to get close to something and take a picture of it big. A regular lens would have a greater distance to subject requirement. A 300-400mm lens would let you zoom in on a sports...

Red Stuff what is it and how do you get rid of it

I'm with brian on that. Do they tend to disappear when the lights are out? When you shake the rock do they fall off (or can you blow them off with a turkey baster)? That's one huge collection of FW!

    Lens selection (Macro, Zoom)

Re: Eye Candy... Tom, the things you want to look for in a Macro lens are: 1) How close to the subject can you get (12"? 15"? 6"?) 2) How low is the lens aperature (2.8? 4.5?) 3) Quality of the glass/reviews 4) mm (100/105 very close numbers, negligible difference). You'd see a bigger...

    BTA problems

The 2@65w PCs might not be enough light for it. Like Mladen said, it may be weak from not getting enough light and is disappearing off. If it is still opening great, but when/if it stops opening, that's usually a bad sign. I had a bta that was too small for the clown that was trying to host in...

    Mag 9.5 return pump??

We ran our 120 with a mag 12 using a mag 15 impeller and had perfect performance. A 900 is going to net you about 700 throughput. Go with 2@250w heaters. Better for you than 1@500. IMO stay away from the WON brothers digi therms. Don't waste your time on 1 6045. We ran with 1 tunze and 1...

    BTA problems

Holding ice on it or flow directly at it might make it move, but unfortunately, if you can't get to it you're not really going to get ice near it. Pulling rock might be the best defense, but if it is hiding because the light is too intense then moving it out isn't going to last long. Moving the...

    Brown to Green hair algae

With a new tank it just might be cycle stuff that will pass with time. If you're using Tap water or feeding excessively it might be nutrients. Phosphate test kits might show something but if you have a good case of hair algae you might test out 0 even if you're introducing it into the system...

    RO/DI

NJRC is doing a group buy for July from Air Water Ice. We've gotten as high as 30% in the past, though I've heard their GB policies have changed some. We'll have to look into it. Our RO/DI is from a place on ebay called Fitler Direct (from Cali, not Canada). 100$ and it still works flawlessly...

    Different plumbing question

You can't use clear primer for house work, that would certainly fail. I thought we were talking about tank plumbing.

    Different plumbing question

We buy clear primer at HD/Lowes all the time and always use it rather than the purple. We do use the "Rain & Shine" (thick blue pvc glue) rather than the regular glue on critical joints, so we tend to have a blue mess rather than a purple mess, especially for anything that we wouldn't want to...

June 2007 Meeting: Thanks and Recap

I'm so sad about this... I was ready to have a dozen of them: "The Purple Nudibranch is also known as Blue Dorid Nudibranch. It can be a light lavender to dark purple or magenta. Unfortunately, the dietary requirements make survival of the Purple Nudibranch in the home reef aquarium very...

June 2007 Meeting: Thanks and Recap

I can't believe I'm the first post! I thought for sure there'd be a bunch by now. Thanks Eric & Michelle for inviting the crew into your home (complete with the PA GB distribution)! It was nice to see all the new faces along with the familiar ones at the meeting. We had a great time. I'm off...

    Substrate question

As long as you stay away from the sand sifting and engineer gobies you can position your powerheads to keep the sand in place. We've had a sand bed for 3 years and when we went from our 120 to 180 we added the extra sand to keep the sand bed at 1.5 or so ". Our sand is always a nice bright white.
