    Metal Halide Lighting

You *might* find the far right and left fringe to be a little dark depending on the reflector used, but if the fixture is meant for a 36" tank then I'd say it will likely look fine. (Conventional "wisdom" is that 1MH bulb will throw light in a 2'x2' square.) As far as whether or not it will be...

Any LFS sell DC8's or 4's

Mike, we have a dc8 that's not in use yet and a chiller that has its own thermostat that you could use. Let me know which one you want and when you'll be here to get it.

    switching tanks

I think it depends largely on how long the sand's been in the tank and how deep it is. We had a 2" sand bed in our 120 that was moved around a lot through current, inverts and animals. We moved the entire bed, less the detritus into our 180 when we switched tanks with no ill effects (we also...

    film on water

As long as your disturbing the surface it should pull that junk into the water to be disposed of by your skimmer. My concern is that if you've got an overflow to a sump (RR tank, I assume?) then it should be pulling the water from the surface to get to the sump. What does the feed to the sump...

    Water Changes

Evaporation is purely water. Everything else (salt, pollution, trace elements) becomes that much more concentrated in your system. When you replace that evaporation, you replace it with fresh water. In order to reduce the pollution in your system and replace the trace elements that are utilized...

World in Focus: The Ultimate Travel Photography Contest

Hmm Wonder if it is being blocked on your end? Works fine here. I thought the same thing about the fee. Also probably helps to fund the prizes! Hopefully the June POTM will be up by the end of the day today.

    Cayars New Tank

ZE tank would put him over the edge (literally!). Probably not the best ... but the indoor pond (if big enough) would be great. I'm not sure what that species eat but I've fed them squid on a number of occasions. Billy built his frag tank and it seemed very doable. It would get you a nice sized...

    Cayars New Tank

I think with enough "head space" you wouldn't need a cover, but most of our tanks don't have enough head space to prevent the jumping. Sounds like you need a custom made tank. Something 4' wide by 2' high by 8' long would be perfect.

    Cayars New Tank

That is a touching story. Especially the part about your dad getting choked up. Is the tank covered? They're known jumpers (I think Trop loses more than they sell to jumping). I think more than height, they need floor space so increasing the water volume won't mean much to him unless you can...

    Cayars New Tank

I'd love to keep rays, but don't really have the system for one. Between their need for a large swimming floor and a covered top, we couldn't responsibly keep one. What kind of tank do you have that you're going to be keeping him in? Sure is a beauty!
