When I started my 29 I used 30 lbs of dry base rock and added 15 Lbs of live rock after about 6 months I noticed the rock started crawling with life. It depends on the type of rock you are going to use, pores rock is best with lots of holes.
Actually my friend who is a plumber did the plumbing for me :) I just drew a bad drawing and he took it from there..lol
I'll help you any way I can Wendy just ask :)
Just take your time and don't rush I wish I was doing everything new it would be a lot easier than moving 2 tanks to 1, sand...
Hey Rev,
I use mud with 2 of my tanks, one has it in a hang on fuge and the other has it in the sump. Haven't had any troubles with it, I only have about 3" in both so I'm not sure if you go deeper it will cause problems or not but cost is a factor, mud is a lot more expensive than sand and...
Hey Tom,
looking good... if your worried about your pump running dry, you could always get a reverse float switch, this way if the water drops below the level you have it at it will shut your pump off. That is what I'm going to be using, I have a bad habit of not checking my top off container...
Why did you switch from them? I don't like the 14K XM's I have one on my frag tank now. I was thinking of trying the iwaski 14K's or radium 20K, but I heard the radium don't last long. I hate trying to choose a bulb without knowing how they would look.
Thanks Gabe, I still have alot to do... lighting, hook up the cal reactor, move the water, sand & rocks from the old tanks, make all the wires and stuff nice and neat and then hopefully I'll finally be done...lol I wish my 120 was closer so I could get all the tank's on one system, I'm happy...
Arvind sorry to hear about your loss.
I agree with eholceker it could have been the primer and cement, did you let it cure and run some fresh water through it before connecting it to your system? That may have caused it.
I agree with cayars, I had a skimmer leak all over the floor, luckily I was home and caught it in time before any damage, ever since then I prefer in sump.
The clam was marked $49.99 I didn't figure how much of a discount, I couldn't decide on which to get so I just picked the clam and went to the register, I was in shock when she told me it was $25 so I asked if I could go back and get the fish... Plus I forgot I had the $25 gift card so it worked...
Hey Wendy,
tank and stand is looking good... a good rule of thumb to go by when deciding how much rock is 1.25 - 1.5 LBS per gallon and if you want more you could always add it as you go.
