    Moving sps colonies

is there a LFS nearby you could go to? I would think when they receive colony shipments they discard all that stuff used to ship the items safely. Maybe you could get that.

    Clownfish Log

Thanks so much! GreshamH from reed mentioned the rotifgrow plus to me already. I'll see if someone can order that for me and i'll pick it up at the LFS.

    Clownfish Log

So the brineshrimp hatching goes great when the temp is at 80. I have no heater that small to place in a 2 liter bottle so I've been placing the entire contraption in a 5 gallon bucket and heating the bucket (thereby creating a bath). Well I decide I have a eureka moment and say - my sump has...

    Power Heads Who is best?

can't comment on the new versions - still using the old ones. :) I use the tunze products due to reliability. I have 4 phs (stream one), the nano wavebox, the multicontroller and the ato. I once accidentally got water on my transformer box for the ph and tunze replaced it free of charge. The...

i'll be second in line on the osm. I could use a second one for the bc29.

What type of cleanup crew do you use for your reef?

Most snails are fine. the only defacto item that is not suitable for any cuc is the green brittle star. Filter-feeding sea cucumbers and sea apples are also not a good idea. Finally some people prefer tanks with no hermits or crabs...but this has more to do with preference.

    Tuxedo Urchin

i forgot to mention - the pincushion urchins from our last GB were butt-ugly. If you decide on going this route -definitely make sure it is a "blue tuxedo" or view it first at the LFS!

    Tuxedo Urchin

the tuxedo I have is great. I didn't trust it with the clownfish eggs so I moved it to my corraline covered sump...where it carved a path and surprise I can see the bottom of my sump again (instead of just a pink wall). It's now back in the main display doing it's thing. Frag discs are typically...

Added African Cichlids an hour after tank setup. Any chance of survival?

This is Petco speak for - I want to make my monthly sales quota and these fish will help. frankly I dunno if they have a quota or not but he/she certainly doesn't have any business acumen. I would have sold the tank AND sold the fish, but insisted the fish be kept in a separate tank at their...

NCPARS / That Fish Place, Lancaster, PA, Sat Jan 30th 2010

Yes - but at least at NCPARS you don't have to deal with figuring out how to take my livestock home from the event. I am pondering how difficult that will be in orlando.

This pic from liveaquaria is great - and looks just like my fry: Here's my less than macro pic from above - the 10g: Here's a pic of 3 from the first hatch. Another:

    Algea control

I don't see what the diff would be between a large display vs a nano other than avoiding the bigger species (e.g. mexican turbos). Even then large tank owners avoid them for their frag bull-dozing capabilities. So is this algae on the glass/rocks or sandbed? Is there even a sandbed?

maybe reduce the micron on the filter sock to grab the filaments? It's not cat hair or something right?

    Clownfish Log

Warning - morbid statistics about to be posted: skip if you don't want to know. January 9th - 30 dead by morning. I noticed a whole bunch clustered around the ammonia badge and to my surprise they were all dead. The slow air bubble current slowly accumulated them there I guess. By the end of...

    Clownfish Log

yeah - i am not even sure the ammonia badge is reading right. Will probably put two in just to be sure. The 5g hex will get the usual daily 10~15% water change. The 10g - well there's probably only 3 g of water in there now with the 100 fry. These all hatched between 6:30pm and 9pm. I gave up...

    brine shrimp for goniopora?

Perhaps baby brine shrimp? That would be the equivalent of zooplankton, since bbs eats phytoplankton. It's weird but for a long time I also said brine shrimp is not suitable meal - but i'm wondering if that is more on the frozen stuff vs the live stuff. Anyways baby brine is very nutritious...

    Your Experience with Ich...

fwiw make sure it is indeed ich and not velvet. In my opinion the best method is to pay the price and get a QT. The hobby is expensive enough maintaining healthy fish let alone having to flush $50, $70, $100 down the drain because you didn't want to pay $25 for a 10 gallon tank and a sponge...
