Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Joe (@horseplay ) filled you in on the secret of mounting frags....epoxy putty with a dab of superglue. Also make sure you have a decent amount of epoxy to build up on the sides of the frag, and now push that into the intricacies of the rock.
I apologize to all those who have acrylic tanks, or should I say I commend you, but I could never ever keep one.....way to easy to scratch. As it is, I have a glass tank that's loaded with scratches....and I don't know how they got there.
I've got to believe there are more than four of us who have Reef2Reef accounts. Let's show them the NJRC presence. If you're not a member their, I'd suggest you join....it's free, just like ours, and has much to offer.....like our own private section! Check THIS LINK out.
The trick with attaching rock together (whether it's with epoxy or cement) is to use plastic rod. Some have gone out and purchased expensive teflon or nylon rods, but I've had great success with using plastic hangers that I cut into short pieces and then drill the rock with a masonry drill bit...
Nitrites are removed (converted) by the bacteria (Nitrogen cycle) by converting it to nitrate. It's a sign that you cycle isn't complete.....large enough population of bacteria.
Just to be clear Rich, you do mean Ammonia Neutralizing Crystals? :D
And Marcus, they could be placed in a media bag and put in a high flow area.....doesn't have to be in a reactor.
NO! It is not submersible. I actually use a little bulkhead holder to keep mine above the water line. I'll see if I can find a link for it.
EDIT TO ADD:
HERE's what I use from Premium Aquatics.
Marcus, I know for pH, you need to use a module that is then connected to the Pi. HERE's an example.
Now don't ask me how to connect it, because my answer is to use a hammer and duct tape!:D
They're back!
HERE's the migration sightings, and they've been seen in south Jersey on March 31st. Get your feeders out. I put mine out today.......1 1/3 cups of sugar made up to four cups with water.
First off I've never been convinced that live sand is truly alive! But if we assume it is, you don't want to add fresh water to the sand.....you didn't mention the order of addition. If the tank is totally empty, you can use it to mix salt. Otherwise, I'd be mixing it outside the tank...
Paul, hope all works out for your wife and the stem cells "stick".
However, if by chance you find yourself back out in La Jolla, and have a couple hours, check out Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institute of Oceanography, 2300 Expedition Way, La Jolla, CA 92037. It's one of the nicer aquariums...
