unfortunately with skimmers - the "get what you pay for" motto applies. Though at macna we learned that spending four digits on a skimmer may not really buy you that much more over a 3 digit dollar skimmer. might be time to consider buying a new skimmer...

Sorry to hear about the loss. Got a question for you - I noticed the kalk reactor was pretty full. How often does that kick in? I use an ATO on mine and if I fill it with that much kalk the system jumps to a 9 ph. So i don't load that much into mine. Just wondering if you are lowering the ph...

don't use a hydrometer. Get a refractometer and set it to 1.025 or 1.026 ( usually do .026).

Generally this is sound advice. However, keep in mind that a black clown is just a false perc that has been bred to be black-colored. So two false percs (regardless of color) should be fine.
