I think you mistyped your specific gravity - 1.035 right? getting down to 1.026? Salinity as mentioned above is measured typically as ppt (in a refractometer). just stabilize the salinity swings and i'm sure the growth will follow.

a pair of true percs and a royal gramma are perfectly fine. dwarf angels like the coral beauty or the flame might be a suitable pick- but both have occasionally been reported to be non-reef safe. the hippo (when small) is fine - but will be a pig and huge as an adult.

don't be surprised if they still go for the snails. As a crab the choice between detritus and escargot is just too easy.... i was going to go crabless in my tank but added a handful I got for free from MACNA/coralmorphologic. Tiny little guys seemed ok...(famous last words)

Hey Paul - Being a ny'er (almost) all my life - the urban legend in the past was that wasn't a river - that was dumping ground for...well...people that were supposed to disappear. ::) What's even crazier is seeing people fishing that estuary. Anyways - neat pics. thanks.
