It is fairly common for people with high flow tanks to reduce the flow at night. Many people I know turn off their tunzes/vortechs at night for that reason.

I'd love to go see them. John would prefer to stick sharp objects in his ears. I'll have to enjoy them vicariously through you!

I think there's a BIG difference between "External Overflow" and an "Overflow Box". My preference would be external overflow first, internal overflow second, and then the overflow box as the least favored option. With the overflow box it seems to be just waiting for failure.

We have an MR3R and it runs externally. It is a monster though with 2 pumps (feed & recirc). If you were to use gravity feed (& no recirc) though you might be able to get away with an external skimmer without a pump at all. My skimmer is hooked up to a collection cup with a stop in it. I don't...

I'm sure your fish would appreciate it greatly. As long as your sump gets decent turnover/airation, I don't see a problem with turning the closed loop off. As many people don't even run them, I'm sure your system will be fine at night without it.

If the shrooms are holding a small piece of rock they can be glued. If they have *no* rock fragments on the back of them then Matt's right. They can't be glued and sitting them in rubble will get them to attach to that, which can then be glued to something larger.
