Nooooooo don’t paint it. Egg crate is really a light diffuser for a 2 x 4 fluorescent light. And it comes in several colors including Crome. But as kraken pointed out. Black being best for our application.

Ok gotcha. I would say NO unless you want to add algae sheets for it to eat. Of course they will eat just about anything (or at least mine does). But it still grazes all day long. So I would hold off on a fish that seems like an obligate grazer till there is a little more stuff for it to pick...

Please don’t take this wrong. But I don’t understand the problem. You have a very new tank. With a fish that I am certain you feed and you have a little algae. That sounds 100 percent normal. At this point I wouldn’t worry about it in the slightest

We recently removed a rather large one. When it was tank dusk we baited a piece of food near the glass away from the rocks. When it reached across for it I grabbed ITV with large tweeters. Got the whole thing bing bam boom. Kind of felt like Captain Ahab
