That is what sumps are for ... I had a crazy crab that I have no idea where it came from but lived under my pump for like 3 years. Tank looks great though.

For a maxima you will want it up higher I agree. I always liked Giessman Actinic, 2 blue plus, and a UVL Aquasun. With 8 bulbs I had slighly different.

Make sure you don't have bends in your overflow lines. Mine have slats...like holes in them to as Matt suggested and filter socks.
