Upgrading 75 Gallon to 200 Gallon... good idea or bad?

Return pump is only one way that you can achieve circulation. Vortechs, Koralia, Jebo, Sicci are all probably more efficent then a return pump. I tend to think that when you hit a certain size the return pump is more of a secondary circulation instrument then the internal pumps. Your return...

Upgrading 75 Gallon to 200 Gallon... good idea or bad?

What kind of lights are you getting? I went from T5 to the Apollo LED http://apolloreefled.com/ during our group buy and I noticed a huge difference in tank temp. I never went above 80 this summer. Yes had the AC on a little cooler then you but made a big difference. Also if you do go to the...

Upgrading 75 Gallon to 200 Gallon... good idea or bad?

Reasons to go basement. 1) pumps skimmers all make noise...basement is away from the tank. (good arguement for wife) 2) mess factor .. when you have a flood(eventually it will happen) it will be in the basement. (good arguement for wife) 3) you can fit a larger water system in basement vs under...

Upgrading 75 Gallon to 200 Gallon... good idea or bad?

I moved from a 29 to a 120. That was great. Go to the basement, Mikes settup is freeking awsome if you can go that crazy. I regret having my sump under the tank to this day. If at some point I redo my stand it is going in the half basement with all my water change stuff.

    Tank size.

I have always had a pair in a 120 4ft and no problems...think that they do better in reef tanks then non reef too for what it is worth.

    Cats + Fish Tanks

How about a fence. http://www.mrmcgregorfence.com/faq.htm That will keep the coral thieves away too during any monthly meetings. I had pictures of duct tape and cats but I figured I would offend someone.

    Windows 7 OR 8??

You know it is really funny in a sad way that this is true. I have always skipped the bad ones I guess partially by chance and partially using that rule.

    Windows 7 OR 8??

I agree it appears Win 8 is a memory hog ...worse then Win 7. So if you don't get a touch screen it isn't worth it. There are a lot of new all in one computers, including a 27 in Lenovo that are portable ... like giant tablets. I understand there is going to be a new Win 8 version in October I...

    Stocking reef tank

BTW I found my yellow assessor after like a full month of not seeing him....lets say they can be a little shy. I guess he heard me talking about him haha.

    Stocking reef tank

The general rule of thumb is 1 inch per 5 gallons....vs 1 per 1 in fresh water. Lets say our sumps are the same..in my 120 I have 2 tangs, 2 clowns, bangaii cardinal fish, small angel and maybe a yellow assessor. Max fish I think the above plus wrasse and blenny. That was full what I have...

    Stocking reef tank

The tank is really pretty good sized. Do you have a sump also? I like tangs a lot and have had two almost always in my tank. The smaller they are the easier the situation will be. That is not the standard answer however and the tang police may come out and get me. Tang police I have always...

HELP fellow DIY geeks and frustrated wanna-be engineers :) need help plannig a move

You can set up fans to cool the tank and keep heaters in it to keep it from dropping to low on cooler nights. Wouldn't worry about lights so much if you can limit the move to a day or two....or you can set up one over the tank and one over the holding stock tank. At some point when I first set...

    Where to trade in fish

It is well worth it to become a member. Some stores will give you a discount to be a member. We have group buys. And you can access the members only forums where you can buy and sell stuff in a NON COMMERCIAL way. I point that out cuz we get a few folks who push the envelope on occasion. We...
