    Lighting a 210gallon AGA

What would you use? This is a beast of a tank. I have a distinct feeling that lighting will probably be my most expensive equipment purchase. If you were setting this tank up, mixed reef, what lighting would you use to light a beast this big? It's sitting in my living room empty staring at me...

    Clown ID

Ok, I can never figure this out. Perc, Osc, blah blah blah. Can someone tell me which clown this is? Got him as a rescue from someone on Craigslist. "death in the family" "noone knows how to care for him" etc. etc. etc. Nursed him back to health. He was in pretty bad shape when I got him...

    Fall/Winter Reminder! Check your heaters!

Just a friendly reminder! Time for a "heater check"! I do it every year. Usually I spend the money and replace heaters that seem to be too far off. Just finished checking my 30 gallon tanks and found one heater that had quit completely. Better to check now and avoid the emergency later!

Water Flow in the Aquarium - Experiments and learnings from Jake Adams' workshop

Ok, so it seems we've "hijacked" blange3's tank thread with water flow discussions, so I figured I'd start this thread up here and try to move that conversation here. My understanding of it was this: 1: Coral growth on the reef creates its own disruption of the flow, or turbulence. 2: Moving...

    Portland Type III cement

Everything I read about DIY anything talks about portland Type III cement. I've looked all over the place. Does anyone know where I can actually GET portland type III cement? Or, if there is some acceptable equivalent that Lowes or Home Depot sells?

Ok... I might be twisted, but THIS is just FUNNY!

Check out this link: http://www.oceanproaquatics.com/shop/crap-never-know-what-youll-p-19769.html But even funnier, read the reviews of what people got in their "Box of Crap"! I laughed so hard I nearly cried...

Putting together a new system, need some veteran suggestions...

Hi guys/gals: I'm working through the plans for a new tank. I'm looking at either a 180 or a 210. I'm leaning more towards the 180 because of the 25" height as opposed to the 29" height on the 210 (mainly because of lighting). At any rate, Looking for some suggestions from the veterans. This...

Blue spot nasso tang eating hair algae??

Ok, never seen this before... I had my blue spot nasso tang (don't worry guys/gals, she's small) in my 75 gallon tank, which is getting overrun with hair algae. I recently set my 90 gallon up, which also sprung out with a case of hair algae. Here's the strange part. She never touched the...

Question about upgrading a light fixture

Hi all: I have an aquaspacelight fixture with 2 150watt hqi and 2 PC actinics. I got it dirt cheap last year, just had to replace one of the ballasts. Did that, that was a snap. Now it seems the other has bit the dust. I think the thing was getting too hot as apparently it would turn itself on...

Does this tang need a straight jacket??

Ok, it seems over night the yellow tang in the 90 bow front went insane. The tang came with the tank, and had taken quite the beating from a former tank mate that the previous owner had just gotten rid of before selling me the tank. The "war damage" is still evident. However, he/she was healing...

    Bio Ball removal

Ok, I want these things GONE! Here's the back story: Purchased a 90 gallon bowfront with a wet/dry system. Took WAY longer to move it than I expected, and I wanted to disturb the system as little as possible. Transported about 70% of the water during the move. The previous owner had WAY too...

    Looking for advice on parameters

Ok, so my tank has been running for about 1 1/2 years now (wow, doesn't seem that long). Started as a 55, and upgraded to 90 gallon a few months back. 90 gallon AGA RR 20 gallon homemade sump with refugium burstin with life 2x150watt 10,000k ushio MH 2xpower compact just for blue (can't...

    Skimming and Skimmer maintenance

Ok, couple of questions: 1: Skim wet or dry? 2: What skimmer maintenance/cleaning do you perform and how often? I seem to have had an issue with cleaning my skimmer TOO often. I think it could be the main reason I was having so much trouble getting it to run consistently. Every time the cup...

    Anyone know anything about telescopes?

Figured I'd try! ;D My wife wants a telescope for Christmas. I don't want to spend a fortune, but I want to make sure she can get one that she can actually SEE things through. (not neighbors, celestial things! ) She has one of those el-cheapo Toys-R-Us models, but you can't see squat. Any...

Well, I am on my way to restocking the 90 since the fiasco of the midnight marauder. Here a couple of shots (excuse the quality, this is my wife's little panasonic lumix canera) Ok, now someone tell me if this is friend or foe. I've actually seen websites selling these things...

    Eclipse System 12 questions

Ok nano experts, help a brother out here. I have an eclipse system 12 that I just set up about a week ago. So far, it is stock. I painted the back black so I wouldn't have to deal with backdrops. Right now it has about a 3" sand bad (mostly live sand from my already established 90 gallon)...
