The brown looks to be it's mucous coating. Give it a few more days. If it starts to disintegrate then take it out. I can see the polyps just opening up so that is a good sign.

What is that dark colouration on the stalk? Is it cyano or is the stalk getting black? As has been said, leathers can close up for days or weeks as they shed and grow. Make sure it is getting a decent amount of flow to help it shed it's mucous layer.
