I have kept singles for up to 6 months or more with no issues. Yes they like company, but it's not a must have for short term.

I know folks that have wild caughts for well over a year and thought everything was fine. Added captive horses and within weeks they were left with just the WC's again. Doing a dip may remove any external parasites he has, but the main concern what bacteria and pathogens is he carrying...
He is a northern erectus seahorse. Try feeding him some frozen mysis shrimp, they usually take to them pretty easily. Once you get him to take the frozen shrimp feeding will be easier and cheaper.

Tell us a bit more about this seahorse you have. What species is it, what does it eat, where did you get it from? Oh and pictures are always helpful and welcomed.
The brown looks to be it's mucous coating. Give it a few more days. If it starts to disintegrate then take it out.
I can see the polyps just opening up so that is a good sign.
What is that dark colouration on the stalk? Is it cyano or is the stalk getting black?
As has been said, leathers can close up for days or weeks as they shed and grow. Make sure it is getting a decent amount of flow to help it shed it's mucous layer.
If it isn't changing that means your calcium is high. Try testing a batch of newly made water before you add it to the tank. Also take a water sample to your LFS and have them test it. With a calcium reading over 600 you would have it precipitating out of the water. I'm betting it was either a...
