i'm afraid I'm stumped. I'm going to hazard a guess that the fish wasn't doing well anyways and the damage to the head was after the fact rather than the cause of it's demise.
another wild guess is that the wrasse somehow burrowed into the pistol's burrow and took a pistol snap in the face. It...
this is one of the down-sides in my opinion on the hob fuge. The only thing I can think of is (assuming you have a canopy) - you could just DIY and place some styrofoam or similar material to block the light from entering your tank.
This is a good read:

Before you get into the advanced stuff - I would encourage that you consider investing in a refractormeter.
In my opinion not having a $20 refractometer is like driving at night without headlights. You might be on...
kinda depends on the size of the tank - but yes small powerheads are known to put heat into the tank. The exceptions are the high-end ones like tunze/vortech.
the ocean is (sadly) a vast dumping ground (sometimes intentional) around the world. The question is - the section of water you plan on getting water from - is it the same or does it carry with it high nitrates (from farm run-off)?
So my point would be if you are going to go this route - might...
there's a guy on another board who's done it for years with no adverse affects. Of course he also has a beer can in his tank so who knows. I guess you could call it a literal depiction of the atlantic coastline. ;)
i think if you are into SPS and sensitive corals -it's probably better to go the...
i would try and move them into a shady corner. I don't have any exp with palys but corals (or clams) that start to bleach usually are a sign that they are expelling the zoo in the flesh because they are producing too much.
awesome tanks! Thanks for sharing!!
great example of sticking by something that works...hey if tap water works...go for it.
I just get hordes or diatoms/algae! :P
btw - does miracle need live food?
if it's cyano you should suck out whatever mat you see. Then occasionally blow the area with the PH when you do your maintenance. Cyano forms because the water flow is slightly slower allowing the nutrients in the area to build up. Blowing/dispersing will allow the nutrients to flow out either...
i'm sure corals can go without light more than a day -the clarity/turbidity of water changes a lot over the course of a year and I wouldn't sweat 24 hrs of no light. Not to mention cloudcover/rain/hurricanes etc.
Re: AGA 120 (very few pictures and lots of dull writing)
whoa - i'm on the third page (tank tales)! what happened!!
So a month has passed. I have to say that without a skimmer I really need to stay on top of the water changes - and I'll be blunt - I haven't. I have got major diatoms all over...
hang in there - we all go thru issues/murphy's law once in a while. If everything were easy - they'd just print the instructions on the salt bag and no one would ever go to an internet forum to ask questions / post experiences.
Honestly I think it's great that seasoned folks (i consider anyone...
